Description
Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country -but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also work with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment. The new Wireless-G Notebook Adapter from Linksys has both standards built in, so you can connect your notebook to existing 802.11b infrastructure, and also the new screaming fast Wireless-G networks. The included Setup Wizard will walk you through configuring the adapter to your network's settings, step by step. Then just slide it into your notebook's PC Card slot and enjoy network access with your notebook computer, while retaining true mobility. Once you're connected, you can keep in touch with your e-mail, access the Internet, and share files and other resources such as printers and network storage with other computers on the network, wherever you wander. At home, you can surf the web or use instant messaging to chat with friends while sitting out on the patio. You'll also be able to connect with any of the growing number of public wireless hotspots springing up in coffee shops, airport lounges, hotels and convention centers. And as those hotspots upgrade to the new high-speed Wireless-G standard, you'll be ready to take advantage of the increased speeds. Get connected to current-standard 802.11b networks today, and be prepared for the future with the Wireless-G Notebook Adapter from Linksys.

Strengths: Linksys Brand!, very rarely looses connection
Weakness: none as yet
This is my 2nd card, I had one earlier too and it worked great...linksys router and linksys card...It always gave me problems with an SMC router at my uncles place (I really do think the SMC router was crappy), but never ever gave me a problem with the linksys router. Infact even my laptop which has an inbuilt card gave me problems with that SMC router but worked great with the linksys router. If...
Strengths: gives me access to the Internet from my laptop at school
Weakness: power hungry
This is a great product because it gives me a fairly relible conncetion to my universities wireless network when there so I can look things up on the internet without going to find a free computer. The one big drawback is that it eats my laptop's battery really quickly.
Strengths: brand name, good reception
Weakness: none so far
pretty easy to hook up, no problem w/ receptions around the house parimeter...got price match with circuit city from radio shack and $20 rebate from both the manufacturer and the circuit city....
Strengths: Easy to install. Support software easy to navigate.
Weakness: None that I have found.
I was skepitcal at first when buying this card for my IBM laptop (with TI pcmcia drivers) based on one of the feedback articles written. I had no trouble with ver. 1.2 or ver. 2.0. They installed just fine. This card works great for the internet and with my work VPN. The range seems fine in all parts of my house.
Strengths: super easy to install
Weakness: sticks out almost 3/4 inch from edge
easy to change setting when roaming on different networks, basic instructions on paper and more detailed on the CD. Works seamlessly changing from 802.11 g to 802.11b.
Strengths: Works with Windows XP, however not perfect
Weakness: Twice crashed Windows 98 SE in my HP laptop, but information on package promiced, that card compartable with Windows 98
Would not recommend to use with Windows 98SE. I had to reinstalled Windows 98 twice and was not happy about it. Trendware PC card 802.11g had no problem with Windows 98SE on same computer.
Strengths: Linksys Tech Support and dedication to customer satisfaction.
Weakness: Would not work with my IBM laptop because it was not compatible with the Texas Instruments PCI CardBus Controller. Average transmit power. Range is OK, not great.
When I was unable to get the card to work, I phoned Linksys support. They agreed to replace my Ver. 2 card with an older Ver. 1 which works with my Texas Instruments controller. Check with Linksys before ordering this card if your PC uses a TI PCMCIA contoller. After all that, the performance of the card is not great anyway, on either B or G networks. I now use a USB adapter instead, attached to...
Strengths: fairly good range. Fine for surfing the internet.
Weakness: no support for network analysis applications due to chipset.
I have to admit that it was my fault for not researching more on wireless network adapters before purchasing one but this linksys WPC54G adapter uses a chipset which is not supported by most (probably all) wireless network analysis utilities out there. I made the assumption that linksys is well known so support for it shouldn't be a problem but I was wrong! If you are using this for normal...
Strengths: Seems to have adequate range,
Weakness: Setup/configuration utilities are incompatible with Win98 SE.
After days of trying, and numerous calls to Linksys Tech support (in the Phillipines) I still could not get the included configuration software to let me set the adapter's IP address or DHCP settings. Apparently these just don't work under Windows 98 and Linksys isn't really interested in fixing it for that "mature" segment of the market.

Linksys WPC54G Instant Wireless Adapter
Strengths: Signal Strength, Speed, Brand.
Weakness: None
This is a great wireless G card for notebooks. It works everywhere in my 3 storey house and gives good download speed on my Cable internet connection. Setup was easy and card works as advertised. Although it doesnt have the speedbooster functionality, it works great when paired with a Linksys router. Its a bit expensive compared to other brands but is worth it.
