Description
The Wireless-N Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect to the network without wires. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices together. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The Access Point built into the Router uses the very latest wireless networking technology, Wireless-N (draft 802.11n). By overlaying the signals of multiple radios, Wireless-N's "Multiple In, Multiple Out" (MIMO) technology multiplies the effective data rate. Unlike ordinary wireless networking technologies that are confused by signal reflections, MIMO actually uses these reflections to increase the range and reduce "dead spots" in the wireless coverage area. The robust signal travels farther, maintaining wireless connections up to 4 times farther than standard Wireless-G.

Strengths: Great Signal range (contrary to other reviews), cool design, compatible with other linksys products, consistent signal, strong encryption (up to 256-bit WPA2)
Weakness: Runs a little hot, initial setup was a little harder than previous G routers, may have to continue to update drivers since technology is only in its draft stages.
I've had this product for a little over a month and have nothing negative to say about it. Compared to the WRT54G router I had previously, this WRT300N is amazing. My signal range has nearly tripled, which is amazing for my very old house with a ton of thick walls. I had no problem getting this to work with older linksys products, too. The web interface for this is identical to that of the older...
Strengths: Range, ease of set-up.
Weakness: None evident
I have installed this item in both of our homes, and each time the installation (replacing older 802.11g wireless routers) went without a hitch. One of the units I bought was a firmware upgrade behind, so I flashed it and since then, no problems to report. They have roughly doubled the signal coverage in each of the houses (one a 5,500 sq. ft. two-storey with high ceilings on the main floor and...
Strengths: - looks good - reasonable 3 year warranty - doesn't seem to explode
Weakness: - poor wireless range - poor wireless throughput - awful web interface - weak features
Even with the 0.92.6 firmware, the wireless speed is a small fraction of what I got with my cheap trendnet mimo router (using an IBM T41p with internal wireless-g). Also, the access controls page is limited to "deny ..." rather than "allow only ...". Finally, they have the worst looking, most confusing web interface I've ever seen (and I've seen a LOT of routers). Do yourself a favor and skip...
Strengths: None - The WRT54GX SRX Linksys products are far better....
Weakness: Not one advertised feature works well. The signal strength is pathetic. There were no reviews of this product at the time I purchase it. I wish there were so I would have not wasted my money. This pro... More » duct is a complete failure and a total wast
Sounds good in theory. Easy set up. Good customer support, if you understand Indo-English. "Shows", more like promises good to excellent. speeds.... Apparently after speaking with Linksys, this router has trouble with it's wireless broadcast. WOW!! I bought it for that alone, you'd think that part would work. I am a systems admin and set router... More » s up all the time, so I know it's not me....
Strengths: Fast wired connection. Wired network and internet connection and interface fine. Wireless connection and interface abysmal.
Weakness: Poor tech support. Unable to solve basic internet connection.
Unable to connect previous home network based on "G" technology to the internet via this router. Tech support unable to solve problem. Would not buy at this time until the bugs are worked out and tech support is more up to speed on the current problem areas.
Strengths: Nice blue case
Weakness: Doesn't work
After buying three of these (for a critical distance application) finally found a sales rep at linksys that admitted they were not really ready for sale yet. Spent 30+ hrs on phone with tech support - Linksys never offered to replace or correct problem. Finally gave up and purchased a g router and everything is fine.
Strengths: WITH ONLY DRAFT N SPECIFICATION IT WORKS FINE, SUPER I MEAN CRAZY FAR RANGE BUT ONLY WITH OTHER DRAFT N PRODUCTS. I have setup I believe 6 of these, customers hear it is the latest and greatest and do not want to upgrade their current cards, do not sell o
Weakness: Once a B or G card connects into this unit, it all goes bad, b and g range such and it obliterates the other draft-n connections as well. i have setup about 6 of these now and all my customers have called in complaining. I told them not to get it in the f
Do not get this unit, until they take b and g off of the N chip and use a two chip system which would actually work. For some reason the Draft-N spec just goes crazy when you hook into it with B or G. Like I said once B or G taps into the Network the Draft-N devices connected start freaking out as in dropping signals and a really short range. Connection was not as good as my WRT54G. Speed sucks....
Strengths: Easy.
Weakness: ? N card for Mac
My Airport finally seemed to give out and I replaced today with LINKSYS N (since my sons have PC laptops). Has worked easily and very well. I am getting faster speeds and better range than I ever got before, and my MAcBook Pro doesn't even have an N card. Can't see what all the others are compaing about! My sons have finally stoped compaining about "LAG" on their on-line games! Worth it for that...
Strengths: looks good!
Weakness: does not work! do not buy! poor serveice!
poor serveice from linksys, they does not know how configure device! I tried with n-type card -- looks ok, but it is dropping connection with b and g every 5-7 min for ~30sec. VERY UPSET
Performance is Below Average according to 14 Wireless Router experts. -- "Best range"-laptopmag.com -- "very good range"-jiwire.com -- "It works great with standard Wireless-G and -B equipment, but when both ends of the wireless link are Wireless-N, the router can increase the throughput even more by using twice as much radio band, yielding speeds up to 12 times as fast as standard...

This draft-n router has the best features of the group we tested, plus excellent documentation and setup. But its test performance did not live up to its billing.

The real issue with this
Strengths: Solid Connection Solid Security Easy Upkeep
Weakness: none anymore
Notice the Linux and Mac users don't have a issue with dropped connections or slow performance. I found this odd too when I was working on my linux laptop. Than it hit me, good ol windoze isn't reading the connection correctly. Go to your router, nab the Fragmentation Threshold, the listen interval, the RTS Threshold and the transmit rate settings. Match those settings in windows by right...
