Description
Wireless-G is the upcoming 54Mbps wireless networking standard that's almost five times faster than the widely deployed Wireless-B (802.11b) products found in homes, businesses, and public wireless hotspots around the country -but since they share the same 2.4GHz radio band, Wireless-G devices can also work with existing 11Mbps Wireless-B equipment. The Linksys Wireless-G Access Point lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. Since both standards are built in, you can protect your investment in existing 802.11b infrastructure, and migrate your network clients to the new screaming fast Wireless G standard as your needs grow. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Access Point can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The MAC address filter lets you decide exactly who has access to your wireless network. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration Utility. Future-proof your wireless network with the Linksys Wireless-G Access Point. You'll enjoy Wireless-B connectivity today, and be prepared for a high-speed Wireless-G tomorrow.

Strengths: Communication with a non-wired building. Used in conjunction with the WUS54G, allows for connection to non-wired machines.
Weakness: Set up for the Internet can be frustating on some machines - WAP is found, but the Internet conncection doesn't work
I'm using a cable modem, LinkSys router, WAP54G, and WUSB54G setup. On a laptop with no ethernet card the installation was fairly easy. On a desktop with an existing ethernet card, the installation has been frustrating at best - still trying to get the Internet connection to work after many hours of tweaking settings and searching for tech support.
Strengths: Easy to setup.
Weakness: Not much documentation provided.
This WAP is great. It took minutes to setup. Be careful of the default settings, if you use security settings with your primary wireless router--all security is turned off. There is not much documentation provided, so you have to just assume you did it all when you finish the Setup Wizard. Coverage is good (better than average), but not GREAT.
Strengths: Easy setup
Weakness: Will only MAC filter 40 machines.
I bought these specifically for MAC filtering my network, there was no indication in any of the paperwork that it is limited to 40 addresses. Beware!
Strengths: Easy Setup, Great Looks, Amazing Performance
Weakness: None found!
Just as UPS dropped my WAP54G at my door, I picked it up, opened the box and literally plugged it into my hub. From that point on, fired up the laptop and I was on the internet. Very very easy to setup. Ready to go right out of the box. Setting up the WAP itself isn't a tedious task, nothing to hard. Also since 802.11g is still draft, you might have some conflicts with the WEP encryption with non...
Strengths: Easy to set up/configure (at least for someone with a slightly technical background)
Weakness: None that I see yet
I set this product up at my company, and it has great range. I have it set up in one of the main offices, and I can be in the back of the large warehouse while still being connected to the Access Point. What is even better, I can have 802.11b and 802.11g network adapters using it at the same time, and the 802.11g connection does not become slower as a result.
Strengths: Easy to set up, make sure you read all the instructions first to avoid hours of confusion.
Weakness: If you have have all Linkys products they interface with no problems. Thrown in another manufacturer and it takes a little tweaking to get them talking (make sure the access point is turned on first).
This is a great addition to my home network, I can turn on my laptop and work anywhere around the house. I get a strong signal from the unit and the higher I mount it the better the signal. Plan on a central location and you will get great use out of this product.
Strengths: Once set up, it has worked great. It is fast, even with three computers using it at the same time.
Weakness: Setting it up. Definately not "user friendly".
First, I couldn't get my laptop to recognize the router on the wired network, even when they were both plugged in. Luckily, I have a desktop computer, and once I inserted the CD into its drive, there was no trouble recognizing the router. I'm not certain that a separate computer is always necessary for this process, but it was the only way I could get it to work. Thus, the software should do more...
Strengths: Very easy to set up. Great range & security
Weakness: None
I had no trouble connecting & setting up this acess point. The security setings are easy to navigate and work very well. Linksys products are by far the best networking components on th market
Strengths: Works great, just as described. Great for the price!
Weakness: Technical product, might befuddle the novice.
Might not be for everyone, but great product if you know what you are doing. Linksys has long been a reliable and stable product. They do have occasional microcode issues, so again, the user must be capable of understanding how to fix problems as they occur.

Linksys Instant WAP54G Wireless Access Point
Strengths: Flexibilty bridge mode or access point
Weakness: Moderate coverage All devices seem to need reconfiguration when devices on the network are reconfigured
i have a wireless router 2 access points and 3 pcs cooneected throughout my house. When I first purchased my equipment I was quite frustrated as the network dropped constantly. I can say it seems to have been software related. I recently updated all devidces firmware (WRT54G, WAP54G, WMP54G) When all were upgraded the reliability has improved tremendously. P.S. I have version 1.08.04 for firmware...
