Strengths: N-network capable, b and g networks backward copatible.
Weakness: Still showing 54mps even when paired with my D-ling N-router.
I got this wireless adapter hoping to improve my desktop's wireless performance and since I already have the matching D-link's top of the line N-router with the latest firmware installed I was hoping for optimum compatibility and performance. To my surprise I found out that this card still showed 54mps connection speed the same as my previous G-network card. D-link has firmware updates available...
Strengths: Speed and coverage
Weakness: Have to open your box to install a PCI card. Is that a weakness?
Wow! I really have had a different experience than the first reviewer. I am running Vista Ultimate and it loaded the card without any need for my help. I live in an apartment with lots of walls and steel between me and the router in the closet (matching DIR-655).
Strengths: None
Weakness: Dosent Work Under Vista
D-Link Has Up So Called Vista Drivers...And They Even State They May Not Work...Pretty Sad For A Company To Release A Product After The Launch Of Vista And Dont Have Working Drivers...For A 129.00 Adapter...This Thing Sucks...DO NOT BUY THIS ADAPTER IF YOU RUN VISTA!!!!
Strengths: High speed
Weakness: Drops connection
Running windows 7 this card cannot maintain a connection to the wireless router, signal strength fluctuates between 2-5 bars even though the router is 8 feet away, drops connection 3-4 times a day and requires a restart of the computer in order to re-connect as it will not recognize any wireless networks. forums.dlink.com/index... Or go to forums.dlink.com and find the page for DWA 552. You will...
Strengths: Easy install, picks up signal good, easy to understand / straight forward, security.
Weakness: May slow down your computer, doesn't work with vista.
Works like a charm. The install was easy, connecting is pain less, picks up signal very well. The only problem i had was that my computer is a little outdated so it slowed it down a little. But other than that it worked great, i used it for several months in my current computer before i bought a portable modem from rogers so i moved it to another computer downstairs haven't had a problem with it...
The D-Link DWA-552 is a draft 802.11n wireless client designed for delivering high-quality wireless performance for at-home use. Designed for N-networks, the DWA-552 outputs up to 14x faster and 6x farther than a typical 802.11g network. However, it still maintains backward compatibility for use with an 802.11g network. In addition, the DWA-552 boasts three external antennas for enhanced...
Top
Great, but not really...
Strengths: Powerful speeds, improvement even under g compatibility
Weakness: No Vista 64-bit support, even though there are so called "drivers" that cause BSoD's.
Sure, it works great, and I bought this looking at the DLink website and seeing that they had support for Windows Vista as well. On my dual boot box, I installed it on XP 32 bit and the connection was excellent. No problems here. However, booting up to Vista Ultimate 64-bit caused me great problems once I installed the latest drivers. Every five minutes (or more like 2 minutes after logging in),...
