Strengths: Have used both DVD and VCR to transfer onto DVD for others and myself. It works very well. Smooth and easy.
Weakness: Compression a bit of a weakness but I am working on that. A bit time consuming.
So far I am very satisfied with the equipment. It does what it claims. Even better control than my Sonic software when transferring from Camcorder to DVD. I have experimented with fun things in setting up a production of home DVDs and so far it works great. P.S. If you don't want to spend time on transferring to DVD then I suggest using just software. Results won't be the same though.

I bought the DX2 to archive our family's collection of analog 8mm tapes. The included software works pretty well, and we're now on our way to getting all 15 years worth converted to DVD. I wish the DX2 would allow me to capture directly into Adobe Premiere or Ulead VideoStudio 10, but at least it works as advertised. I have a DELL E510 computer. This devise was definitely easy to install. But, having to only use ADS software to capture is a drawback. The custom settings are very limiting and video quality was just not great. My video was too pixelated. I was converting HI-8mm video with RCA connection. I'm returning this unit and trying a firewire capture device called Canopus ADVC-110

The disk packaged with the DVD XPRESS DX2 was defective. The Ulead VideoStudio 9 SE DVD part of the disk would not load on my computer. Several attempts at loading were unsucessful. It worked very well when I had WXP. I upgraded to Vista and Upgraded from ULead9 to ULead 11 Plus. It will not work. I could not make it work after I deleted everything and installed CapWiz. I could not get a driver upgrade to work. There is no way to contact their support. Everything on their support page is years outdated.
