Strengths: Fair price, fast and easy installation.
Weakness: None, so far.
I didn't have any problems with the installation of this card. My running operating system is Windows XP (Service Pack 2), and it didn't require any additional installation software. This is my first experience with Belkin PCMCIA devices, at this point I'm very satisfied with their product.
Strengths: Ease of installation in Windows XP & Windows 2000.
Weakness: The large connector area makes it impossible to use the Linksys (Cisco) G-band wireless card.
The card was removed from the package. The first chore was to remove the adhesive from the back of the card that kept it attached to the cardboard. Most of the gooo was removed. The first system installed was Windows 2000 with the latest service packs (very important step). The install was flawless. The second system was running XP with the latest service pack. Again, the install went well. So...
Strengths: Slim device as opposed to others on the market. Works perfectly from the outset
Weakness: None
This device works like a charm in older laptops that lack the USB 2.0 connectivity. It is pretty slim and comes with an external power supply--that is actually a good thing since many devices that are power intensive need that extra juice. Overall, I highly recommend this PC Card especially from a trusted name like Belkin.
Strengths: Allows USB 2.0 capability for older notebooks.
Weakness: Mobility with the AC adapter is limited.
Upgraded the BIOS on an older USB 1.1 capable Toshiba laptop to add USB 2 capability. This card allows you to access USB 2 devices at their increased speeds. Cost-effective upgrade. Belkin has a lifetime warranty on the item. I continue to use on a new notebook to add two hi-speed USB ports for external USB Drives. No problems over the past 2 years.
Weakness: aint work with ipod and burners
I needed it since I bought an external dvd burner that reguires usb2.0 port. But I cannot even burn a cd yet. I can extract CD. But I cannot burn CDs by the Burner that I got. Nothing is wrong with the burner. I guess this usb 2.0 cardubs doesn't have enough memory or something. My ipod doesnt wort with this port either, so I have to use the 1.1 port that my laptop has....
Strengths: nicely packaged/good price
Weakness: Doesn't work
I wanted this device to update an older notebook with only USB 1.1. I followed the instructions for installing in Windows XP both with and without a driver install. I did this on 3 different notebooks and could only get it to work as a USB 1.1 device and not consistently at that. I would call support, but they don't want you to on a device this cheap.
Strengths: Great way to add Hi-Speed 2.0 to you laptop.
Weakness: Too big to use extra slot for another card. Belkin Customer Service useless.
Purchased to use an external DVD Writer (Lite-On Ez-Dub) but would not detect the driver. The drive worked on laptop 1.1 usb port. Had installed all updates, firmware, etc. Called Belkin and they just said card is defective and to get another. I told them card worked fine for all other devices (mouse, printer, etc,) They still said defective and wanted my credit card to send another. (They were...
Strengths: fast , easy to install
Weakness: does not work with belkin wireless usb2 device, expensive
I have it for only 2 days so far cannot say much. I cant connect the usb2 belkin wireless device to it it does not recognize it altough a usb1.1 does.
Strengths: + Easy to install--no drivers required on Mac or PC + Fast + Comes with a power adapter so I can use devices that require more power than my PC card slot provides on its own
Weakness: - The adapter brick is a little big
I wanted to add some USB 2.0 ports to my 3-year-old PowerBook G4, which I'm not looking to replace quite yet. This fit the bill perfectly. I didn't even need to install any special drivers with Mac OS X 10.4. This also worked on my work ThinkPad T42 (I was just checking it out.) Overall, I'm very satisfied.
ok for most things
Strengths: Gets me USB 2.0 on an older laptop with USB 1.0 ports
Weakness: Does not work with Lexar Lightning memory stick and PowerToGo software
Fails consistently with Lexar Lightning memory stick when trying to boot PowerToGo internal application. Suspect there is a power problem because the blue indicator light seems dimmer than on a proper USB 2.0 port.
