Product Series: HVR
Strengths: Compact. The included antenna is great at picking up OTA HDTV - as good as any standard "HDTV" antenna.
Weakness: No built in tuner or remote. single tuner. Crappy software
This little usb stick is one of the best HDTV tuners for the price. For a desktop, I think its worth spending a little extra to get the PVR1600 with 2 tuners + remote & built in decoder. I would recommend the 950 for laptops or as a second tuner for a desktop. Dont bother with the included software - works great with BeyondTV or the free GBPVR
Strengths: excellent reception, even on the weaker analog channels; inexpensive; external
Weakness: no analog stereo; no closed-captioning; crummy software; poor tech support
I bought this unit for use as a TIVO-like device. This it does and does well -- though the 10 second or so delayed start (during which reception is blanked) might annoy some users. This delay occurs on my P4 3.0c system with 1.5GB RAM, the AIW 9800 Pro card & Windows XP SP2; your mileage may vary. . The included software works well with Titan TV's website for scheduled recording. I've had only...
Strengths: East to set up
Weakness: USB adapter gets hot, high CPU demand
This USB adapter is very easy to set up. Attena comes with it can catch 6 HD channels for me. Use about 50% of CPU for Dual Core 1.7 GHz Dell Laptop. However, unit gets very hot after 30 minutes of operation. The antenna comes with this unit is not so great. I have hooked this up with a rabbit ear antenna with power amplifier, and it gets much better signal for analog channel and more digital...
Strengths: Very portable. Antenna included.
Weakness: WinTV software.
Works well if you are on the road and would like to use your laptop as a TV and HDTV. The antenna included is highly compact. However, the reception may not be as good as because of the antenna. The software provided does not provide an easy way to see how strong your HDTV signal is. As such, you may not get many channels as you would like if you were to use a large traditional HDTV antenna. The...
Strengths: ---Great signal reception--- Exelent picture quality--- Windows Media Center support--- Small and portable--- Composite / S-Video capture cable included---
Weakness: ---Mediocre software at best--- Drivers must be reinstalled when switching between USB ports--- No hardware decoding (CPU intensive)---
I purchased this HD Tuner knowing that I would be using it with Windows Media Center instead of the lackluster software that is included, so I was not disappointed when I found out firsthand that the software that comes with this tuner is better left uninstalled. I recommend that you have Windows MCE or another PC TV tuner program before buying this. Hardware wise, I have nothing but praise for...
Strengths: Very portable; good quality product; reputable brand
Weakness: Heats up a little bit but not severe; resource intensive; clunky software
This is a great portable USB HDTV tuner that is perfect for a laptop on the go. It comes in two pieces: the USB dongle and the little wired antenna. You can go anywhere and pull down both HD and non-HD signals that are broadcast over-the-air. Some geographic locations have more over-the-air stations than others, so the actual number of stations you'll be able to receive will vary. Reception...
Strengths: Can be paired with an IR remote (which you can easily rip the codes from with a learning remote or PDA).
I'm considering buying. RE: mmgtlg: the users guide states that +/- will change the channels. Can someone please confirm? If so, a wingman cordless would make a great remote :>
Strengths: For digital this is a great unit. For analog, the picture is not that clear. However, it tunes in 40 cable channels and 17 digital. I like that it tunes for both.
Weakness: Software.
Have to admit that all I did was install it and it worked. The software scans and I have 17 channels. But I live in NYC. Like the antennae compared to others I have seen. The software is OK, a surprise from the big name Hauppauge. But in order to change channels it requires that you right-click and then select the channel you want. No up and down arrow like some others I have seen. I am looking...
Strengths: DVR works great; easy to add programs from a schedule and make adjustments.
Weakness: Cannot save broadcast and cable channels at the same time.
The product was easy install and works great. The only problem is a scan for broadcast channels deletes previous settings for cable channels and vice versa.I am happy with it so far.

Strengths: Works under Windows Vista; Includes antenna; HDTV picture quality noticeable when comparing with regular NTSC.
Weakness: No remote; No QAM support; Software is a bit unstable.
The WinTV HVR 950 USB stick package came with the device itself, a short usb extender cable, a telescoping antenna, and a CD-ROM software. My package also happen to include an external video cable dongle to connect external composite or s-video sources. You might or might not get this extra, since Hauppauge typically sells this as an accessory to the usb stick. I was able to install the software...
