Strengths: - 16 ports - lots of connections! - Indicator lights are right above the network cable connector - Auto Uplink - no crossover cable needed!
Weakness: Uses large transformer power adapter (not a single plug/brick transformer) which can take more than one spot on your power strip.
This is a solid, well-designed unit. Features I love: 1) Auto Uplink - connect to other hubs/switches without use of a crossover cable - it will auto switch for you on any port! (This is a feature of the latest FS116. The description above is incorrect when it describes an "uplink button.") 2) Speed/Activity lights above network cable connection which allows viewing connection easily (vs....
Strengths: This product is reliable and works great. I have had no problems.
Weakness: This product is bulky and doesnt have an uplink button. It has an uplink option without the button. All computers on the network are recognized.
This switch is very good for a small network. An access point can be attached to it. It also comes with screws to attach to a wall/fixture.
Strengths: Fast, compact, sturdy metal constuction, 5 year warranty, silent, mountable (comes with screws).
Weakness: Not a Gigabit
Now I finally have the capacity I need for those LAN parties I throw. Eight ports is not enough and I haven't seen many 12 ports so this was best number for my needs. I actually would like to get another. The royal blue finish on the metal will help it disappear in a dark room. That fact that it is so small and compact and easily mounted. I am finishing my basement and I needed a central switch...
Strengths: compact, price, technical support, 100-240V AC/DC transformer
Weakness: AC/DC transformer plug is on the side (left or right, depending on how it is plugged into the AC outlet)
The unit is compact so it fits nicely into my Leviton Medida Center 240 (telephone, TV, network box). No fan, so the switch is silent. Available 24/7 technical support if needed; cannot comment on quality of technical support. Depending on your setup, the left/right handed DC wire connection may be good for your installation, as it will save an AC connection on a traditional power strip. For my...
Strengths: This product is truely plug and play. Zero configuration is needed. No fans. No uplink worries. It autosenses. The unit is small and lightweight. Case is metal. Comes with mounting hardware
Weakness: I really can't think of any.
I purchased this switch a week ago to replace a hub that had gone bad. I was looking for something that would handle any future growth of my home network. This product really fit the bill in all ways. I have limited space to put my network gear and the small size of the unit was really a plus. I was able to plug in all my components: cable modem, router, all pcs and printers. I have ample space...
Strengths: Soild unit, fast speed, great performance
Weakness: pricing
I have use this swith for my home office. The performance of this unit is so good. Solid unit with no noise( NO FAN) and very stable. The price was pretty high while I made purchase, but i would say it's worth the money!!
Strengths: 16 ports, only slightly warm on the case when turn on.
Weakness: Not find any problem yet after usage of two months.
For home or small business use, most router (wired or wireless) comes only with 4 ports, very easily it all fill up. When thinking to buy a multiple ports switch, both Linksys and Netgear have 8 ports, but only Netgear carry this 16 ports. I decided to go for 16, and now it already fill up 8 ports. I have been using Netgear and Linksys router, switch, and print server for a few years, both brands...
Strengths: Excellent price/performance ratio, small size.
Weakness: Power supply occupies 2 spaces on the wall outlet
Large number of ports (16) in a very space efficient package. Has auto uplink port that works in conjuction with a router without requiring a cross over cable. This is an excellent switch for full house networking. Would highly recommend this product.
Strengths: Compact, fast, efficient, very cost effective
Weakness: No mtg brackets
Would rate this product as about an 8.5 out of 10. Compact, good features, informative diagnostic LEDs, very cost effective. Purchased from Buy.com, shipped lowest cost standard freight terms, delivered in 3 days, even though the shipping terms indicated 1-2 weeks. Would have been even better (9.5) if it had included mounting brackets.
The Netgear ProSafe FS116 is one of three entry-level, FS100 series desktop switches (FS105, FS108, FS116) released in 2004. They all feature 10/100Mbps auto-sensing connectivity and plug in via Ethernet cables and a power cord. The FS116 is the top unit out of the three because it includes 16 total ports, the most bandwidth (3.2Gbps), the most memory (512KB), and the largest address database...

Strengths: Great price, plenty of ports. Hard to go wrong here.
Weakness: Blocky. Less sleek than the newer Netgear switch designs.
This is a great option for networks needing additional ports, especially if further expansion is expected in the future. This switch is incredibly affordable (I got it for $30 after rebate). Even if you plan to upgrade to Gigabit network connectivity in the future, this switch is an excellent stopgap solution. For most users, fast ethernet (100 Mbps) is plenty fast for most tasks. You won't be...
