Strengths: good for gamers
Weakness: VERY BAD FOR MUSICIANS
this seemed liked a wonderfull card at first, boasting 24 bit 96 khz recording. what it didnt mention is that the Line In recording function has been replaced with "Analog Mix". You can no longer record an individual track with this card as you could with previous sound blasters!!!!!!!!! Instead it records the mix of everything happening in your system. The customer service rep told me that...
Strengths: Pro Studio quality reverb, very powerful DSP engine, Great enviornmental effects, Excellent Midi capabilities.
Weakness: Installation difficult on some systems, drivers still have some flaws (primarily on Win XP systems), and there are noise and lock up problems on a small percentage of systems.
The following comments apply equally to the Audigy Gamer, Mp3, Platinum and Platinum EX, since all of them use the same basic Audigy card. The Audigy sound card is a "must have" upgrade for anyone using their computer for music production, the reverb alone rivals many $2500.00+ pro-line stand-alone studio reverb units, making the Audigy a super bargain on this basis alone. The Audigy is very...
Strengths: Great sound
Weakness: XP Squeal of Death
The sound on this product is outstanding. Wonderful, in fact, and installation was fairly easy. The problem I have with this card is the "Squeal of Death" that freezes up my computer and requires a complete system reboot. I'm running Windows XP with an 1800MHz system, and know I'm not the only one to have this problem - its documented in a number of places on the Web. Creative Labs has...
Strengths: Best quality sound period!
Weakness: Software installation.
I purchased this card to replace a Diamond Multimedia MX300 (a very good card) that caused conflicts with my system. Installation of the physical card was easy. However, it took two installations to get the software installed. Time consuming but ok. My system is AMD-based with VIA chipset. I downloaded and installed the latest VIA drivers before I installed the SB card. Highly recommend anyone...
Strengths: Sound is clear and powerful during game play.
Weakness: Haven't found any
I built my computer from the ground up and decided that I needed 24-bit multi-channel playback, especially with the games that are just coming out this Fall and Winter. I am VERY happy with the product and think that for the price (about $78) it was a great choice.
Strengths: It makes my computer play sound.
Weakness: Causes problems in windows xp.
I have to disable it to install anything or else it will crash the system, something that rarely happens in win xp. Their tech support, after they couldn't tell me why it was doing it, just said "Windows XP requires approval for hardware used under xp, we do not recommend using unapproved hardware." It was not even pertinent! I would buy a SB Live! if I had it to do over again.
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Strengths: Great Sound!
Weakness: Included software is useless.
If you buy this sound card, only install the drivers. The included software is no good; it takes over your computer like RealPlayer One does. Evil stuff, especially on XP. Using ONLY the drivers, I have had no problems, and can enjoy my Klipsch system.
