Cooler Type: Heatsink
Strengths: A lot of processing power for the money.
Weakness: Costs a little more than an OEM unit and is packaged with a heatsink/fan assembly that some people may not want.
I bought a retail boxed processor so I could have more confidence in its history than for an OEM unit. I have read that heatsinks from some other manufacturers dissipate heat better than the one supplied by AMD, but so far the one supplied has done an adequate job of cooling my processor. I have not attempted overclocking. I had to struggle a bit to get the clip that attaches the heatsink to the...
Strengths: Runs well, fast and come with a AMD fan
Weakness: It has been locked, can not be overclocked
I always think AMD's cpus are better than Intel's Especially for the price, you can save money for other stuffs, such as video card and so on.
Strengths: Seems very fast especially when paired with a Dragon Ultra Platinum.
Weakness: Still not a amd 64 or Prescott.Plus its easy to crush the core on this thing.
I bought this cpu for a new gaming/school machine I am building.I was running a thunderbird 1.3 for 3 years, so this is much faster than what I had before.I had a very positive shopping experience, and I felt the price/performance ratio was excellent.Installation was a bit shaky, considering this is my first machine I have built myself. But I managed to get through it just fine. :)
Strengths: Good for the price
Weakness: The fan is a little hard to install for someone like myself with limited experience. Also a little disappointed by AMD's tech support and the website is somewhat confusing also.
Purchased for our first DIY desktop and first desktop. Works well with the Asus A7N8X MB. We didn't try to overclock it yet, but compared with our old laptops, the speed is already quite amazing for simple operations such as surfing, writing, etc.
Strengths: Fast, stable, decent overclocker, great for applications, gaming and graphics.
Weakness: Not really a big pusher on overclocking unless you're running some major cooling in your system.
The default clock is 2.083Ghz running at 166MHZ. I'm using a Thermaltake Silent Boost Fan on this with a good tad of thermal paste on this chip. Pushed this baby up to 185Mhz which would be 2.31Ghz - Ran through but hanged when running PCMark04. Running it down with 181MHZ using an MSI-KT6V-LSR board and it runs perfectly fine. Using 1GB Kingston 512MB DDR433 (PC3500) RAM which benchmarks over...
Strengths: The processor has been running strong on my rebuilt system (Shuttle SN41G2 motherboard, 512MB ram). Quick as grease!
Weakness: Perhaps a little slower than the Athlon XP 3000, but the 2800 is certainly more cost effective.
I initially had some problems with the processor overheating. However, I now believe this to be the fault of the motherboard's fan rather than the processor. For this reason, I highly recommend that prospective buyers purchase the boxed version of the processor as a AMD processor will work best with an AMD fan. Highly recommended to those who don't have big money to spend on 64-bit processors.
Strengths: fast and superb processor, worth the money, excellent for gaming, more than enough for any game on the market, highley recommended
Weakness: none
I build my comp for gaming and sometimes overclocking. My mobo Gigabyte GA-7VN400 Pro2 with 512 DDR400, i manage to get the +2800 to run at +3200@2.38gig, but for stability is better off at +2800@2.13gig anyway a superb processor.
Strengths: Fast processor, especially for games!
Weakness: None.
I ordered this processor when the price dropped to $125, and I am not sorry! This was an upgrade from an Athlon 1.3 that had served me well for 3 years. The processor came with a heatsink and fan that is working fine. I have even noticed that XP runs a lot faster. This is an excellent processor!
Strengths: Everything. Especially the price. Cant beat performance for the price
Weakness: None.
Used pricegrabber to find the best deal. This CPU rocks. Cant wait to see the difference from an old 2000+ I'm sure AMD will continue to drop in price and I will build another PC using AMD and ASUS products.
AMD Athlon XP 2800+ 2.08 GHz Processor
Strengths: Great processor, highly recommended.I built my computer for gaming this processor has worked great, no problems.
Weakness: none
very fast and very stable. this cpu has giving no proublems and is running great. it is used primarily for gaming.I have a asus a7n8x delux motherboard with 1 gig ddr400mem.I would buy another 2800+ because of the price differance over the 3200+.it is a very fast processor at a reasonable price.
