Description
The AMD Athlon 64 processor runs on AMD64, a technology that allows the processor to run 32-bit applications at full speed while enabling a of powerful 64-bit software applications. Advanced 64-bit operating systems for the AMD64 platform from Microsoft, Red Hat, SuSE, and TurboLinux have already been announced, and they only run on processors with AMD64 technology. With the introduction of the AMD Athlon 64 processor, AMD provides customers a solution that can address their current and future computing needs. As the first desktop PC processor to run on the AMD64 platform, the AMD Athlon 64 processor helps ensure superior performance on today?s software with complete readiness for the coming wave of 64-bit computing. With AMD64 technology, customers can embrace the capabilities of 64-bit computing on their own terms and achieve compatibility with existing software and operating systems.

Strengths: Best BANG for your $$$. Much more stable than the Newcastle core 3500+. Overclocks very well. This new Winchester core is Killer!
Weakness: N/A, 0, Notta, None!
Great AMD Athlon 64. I went from the Atlon 64 3200+ Sckt. 754 to this Sckt. 939 and the Winchester 3500+ with a MSI Neo2 Platinum and to my surprise it was a much greater increase in power than I really expected. My next upgrade will definitely be the FX55. AMD has it going on.
Strengths: It's also Socket 939 (90nm) at 2.2GHz and 3500+ compared it INTEL. CPU comes with a 3 year Processor in a box warranty. Window XP SP2 virus protection. Ships with Box Fan (Easy installation)
Weakness: Instructions for insulation is not very straight forward with diagrams instead of written English.
The Winchester CPU is a newer CPU than the Newcastle but both are labeled as 3500+. But the Winchester (90nm) runs much cooler and consumes far less energy than its 130nm Newcastle one. Winchester: ---------- Max Thermal Design Power: 67 W Max Icc (processor current): 45.8 A Newcastle: --------- Max Thermal Design Power: 89 W Max Icc (processor current): 57.4 A The Winchester would overclock...
Strengths: Socket: Socket 939 dual chanel,Core: Winchester,1Ghz FSB Voltage: 1.5V Process: 90nm
Weakness: none
This is an awesome processor. I was an Intel fan but i decided to go for this chip instead after some further reading. I was not disappointed, it runs so smoothly and i play a ton of games..ut2004 on full everything,doom3 on a high res, high everthing and the processor eats it all up. My temps reach 45-50 while playing games..but right now it's running at 34*Celsius. for cooling I have a Chenbro...
Strengths: These Winchester 90nm cores overclock better then the 130nm Newcastle cores. It only dissipates 67w of power in comparison to the Newcastle 3500+ which dissipates 89w.
Weakness: Multitasking on the Athlon 64's isn't as good as a Pentium 4 w/ HyperThreading.
If your building a gaming rig then this is the processor for you! It has an on-die memory controller which decreases the latency from the memory and improves areas such as fps in games. The 90nm Winchester cores run much cooler then the 90nm Prescott cores from Intel. The processor supports 64-bit windows so your ready for Windows XP-64 next year. The floating-point strength of an Athlon 64 is...
Strengths: Awesome processor for price, newer 90nm , 3 year warranty, good price/performance ratio
Weakness: none
This Athlon64 3500 is just a great processor. Easliy installed in my MSI K8N Neo2 MB and my computer just flies. Be sure to get the 90nm one for less power usage, which turns into less heat, which means a higher overclock!!
Strengths: Socket 939; utilizes the newer 90 nm production process, which results in much lower power requirements AND a cooler running processor compared to the 130nm Newcastle processors
Weakness: None
The 3500+ Winchester was a breeze to install in my Asus AV8 Deluxe motherboard. The graphic "how to" guide was sufficient for this first time computer builder. The retail version comes with a more than suitable heat sink fan and a manufacturer's 3 year warranty. This processor anchors my new computer, which blazes through Doom 3, Half-Life 2, UT 2004 and FarCry.
Strengths: Fast....very fast! Very cool temp wise.
Weakness: Be warned, if you move from Intel to Athlon and keep exisiting Windows HD installed, you may have a Windows loading error due to the different "snapshot" of the Windows set-up of the two processors.
Moved from P4 2.4 to this fast boy. Teammed with a ASUS A8V Deluxe MB and 1 Gig of Corsair 3200DDR ram. Games I used to get some stutter now run smooth on even higher settings. I didn't change my GF5700 vid card, but video in-game is much, much clearer. I got it for $300 retail box at Zipzoomfly, but see it has gone up $20 by today.
Strengths: Fast and works great for my video editing needs.
Weakness: None.
Performs well and Easy to install on my ASUS A8N-SLI DELUXE MOBO. Considering it's my first time to assembly a PC. The heatsink and fan was designed very well to fit the motherboard slots. Checked the CPU temp after running 24 hrs. and everything was normal. AMD really makes great CPU's.
Strengths: fast, solid, 64-bit, oc's well, good stock fan. good price for speed
Weakness: 512k instead of 1mb.
this cpu is really fast and although its not the fastest on the market, its still quite impressive. 64-bit is always a plus. this cpu comes with the amd stock cpu fan, which is pretty good and quiet (although i got a thermaltake Venus 12 fan with speed controller and it works even better and quieter) this winchester model is really quite fast and great. only about $275 at my time of purchase...
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Processor
Strengths: Newer Winchester core (90nm) runs cooler and has lower power requirements than the Newcastle core.
Weakness: None
Note that all the boxes will be labelled 3500+ but the Winchester cores are newer and tend to be more stable when overclocked, compared to the Newcastle. Check carefully before buying. From what I'm told the Clawhammer cores overclock better than the Newcastle as well. The AMD 64s are more value for money compared to the Intel processors, with the option to run Win XP 64bit if you get your hands...
