Strengths: Great multimedia, office application, and gaming processor with an awesome cost/benefit ratio for the DIY'er
Weakness: Heat, heat, heat... Did I say heat?
This processor has fell into the same mold the AMD Athlon Thunderbird line did when comparing it to the Intel processor lines. For most everything that computer users do with their systems, the Athlon 64 outperforms the Pentium 4 on nearly all accounts. The price differential between the Athlon 64 and P4 are about the same now if you compare a 3.0 Prescott or Northwood to the 3000+ chip. But, if...
Strengths: Fast modern processor with a fantastic price/performance ratio.
Weakness: Cool'n'Quiet support is lacking in Windows 2003. Nonexistant technical support
This processor has one of the best price/performance ratios of any modern processor. It is a great processor unless you are looking for the latest and greatest. The processor came with a heat sink and fan, but enough people said that the fan was unacceptably loud so I did not even try to use it. I went with a Zalman cooler instead. The main downside is that there is no Cool'n'Quiet driver for...
Strengths: Very fast, 64 bit support, great 32 bit performance, good price.
Weakness: On the soon-to-be discontinued 754 socket.
This processor is a great value. It performes great, and is much more efficient than a Pentium 4 with its clock cycles. Uses performance ratings instead of GHZ for speed, which is good, because the performance rating also reflects the bus speed and the L2 cache. Does not require registered RAM like the FX version does. If you need a processor now, I would recommend this one, but if you can wait a...
Strengths: 64-bit, strong performance
Weakness: not the best
This processor is certainly perfect for the price. For a 64-bit processor, it's not too expensive, but its strong enough to carry through the next gen (hopefully) I fully recommend AMD over the high priced Intel!
Strengths: 64 bit (but still compatible with 32 bit OS + apps)
Weakness: ???
I have this processor running on an MSI motherboard with 1 G RAM (OCZ). The system runs great under Windows XP. Hopefully the new 64 bit Windows comes out soon so you can utilize the 64 bit capabilities. Great proc.
Strengths: Great processor. Runs cool and can support anything that can be thrown at it.
Weakness: Only supports up to ddr400 as of now. The next wave should support ddr500.
Not much difference in performance compared to the 3200+ while saving a few bucks. Highly recommend this processor to anyone looking to upgrade. If you are not looking to overclock, stock fan is sufficient.
Strengths: Flawless operation, sizzeling speed, cool quiet operation, no lockups in the three+ weeks I hane had it.
Weakness: none I have found
Amd 64 is the bomb!!! running MSI K8T Neo, 512 Apacer 3200CL3 Ram, CleverPower SPS500 500W power supply, With this 3000+ Amd 64, it is the sweetest machine I have ever had. Stable as a rock!!!
Strengths: Very Fast, Easy Installation
Weakness: None
This was a smart decision when I decided to go ahead and purchase the AMD Athlon 64 3000. I will be ready to go when 64 bit takes off.
Strengths: Superior proccessor; great speed and accessability
This is the first AMD processor I've every used and I have to say that I'm pleasantly surprised. It works exceptionally well, with no control problems. I would recommend AMD over Intel any time. This is a superior product.
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 2.0GHz Processor
Strengths: cheaper socket, very stable
Weakness: gets a bit hotter bc of newcastle core
Well i mainly purchased this setup for a work comp at it runs very smoothly with no problems. I have run a few intensive apps and games such as photshop and doom3 and it all runs and works great. The socket 754 chip is much cheaper than others bc the socket may be phased out soon, so it makes it a steal bargain. Give it a try if your tight on cash and need a fast system.
