Samsung ML-2151N Laser Printer

I got the printer for an excellent...

Strengths: Fast. Large paper tray. Ethernet and Duplexing standard. Sharp print quality.

Weakness: I couldnt find a way to switch duplexing in the software, before you print--it is only a button on the printer itself.

I got the printer for an excellent price--was the price artificially low back in December 2003 for some reason??? It has performed superbly to date, and I would definitely buy it again.

Strengths: Good buildy quaility. Wide platform support. Good networking provision

Weakness: Paper has to re-enter for duplex

This printer amazed me both with the price, and the quality of the actual product. It is very fully featured, with network connection, duplex paper handling and very high speed, yet remains around the $300 mark. The output is comparable to any other laser printer in this field. I can highly recommend the printer.

Strengths: Lots of printer for your money. Fast print engine, PS 3, sharp text and great halftoning. All for $300.00. HP beware or Samsung will own the laser printer market.

Weakness: Not much Mac info in the manual. Great tech support makes up for it.

I purchased this printer a week ago and I still can’t believe it only cost $300.00. HP needs to take note or Samsung is going to own the laser printer market. The print engine is fast, the image quality is great, software load and set-up was quite easy. I had to get some tech support help with setting the printer up on a network as I have no experience in that arena. Tech support was helpful and polite. They were even prepared to deal with Mac OS X questions. Buyers take note that this printer comes with the Postscript 3 module as a standard feature. Most of the descriptions at on-line stores show PS as an option. However, I saw some text at the Samsung site that suggested it was standard. I called to find out and, sure enough, they include it on the ML-2151N. PS 3 modules retail for $150 alone so that makes a great deal even better.

samsung makes really good quality product at reasonable price. set this printer up in window xp and unix(solaris 8) environment and works perfect !!!!!

Yeah, you'll hear people complain that it only comes with a 4k page starter cartridge, but for me, it's not an issue. No biggie. Just a deferred payment plan in my mind.

The network setup was simple on the front panel. Not exactly like an HP, but pretty similar in concept. I didn't have to crack the manual open. Just put in a static IP after plugging in the network. It had already grabbed a DHCP address, so I only had to change one octet. The subnet and gateway were some funky impossible setting (4.10.132.5 or something), but so it added an additional 20 seconds to setup - big deal.

So, I then downloaded the ppd's for OS X from their website and was printing in a few minutes. My wife's crappy WinME laptop was a different story, but that's a review of WinME, not the printer (amazing to me it doesn't allow LPR printing... I thought we'd have to spend more getting XP). However, Samsung's software worked like a charm. That only took an additional 20 minutes.

Yeah, first page out is a BIT slow compared to some personal laser printers. The 12 second number you get from Samsung seems about right though. After the warmup, it's nearly instantaneous.

All in all, a fast printer with great output quality and paper handling.
