Strengths: Beautiful printing; decent speed (specs state 20 ppm for color printing); sharp-looking machine
Weakness: A smaller profile would have been preferred (the 8450 is a bit bigger than the 8150); inkjet cartridges -- always -- are pricey.
I originally was thinking of picking up a printer to handle 4" X 6" prints. That thought lasted about 10 seconds, because it simply was not cost-effective to pay good money for a printer essentially limited to that function. Well worth the extra cash is a printer like this that, in addition to 4" X 6" photos, can handle 8" X 10" and other size photos and double as a back-up printer. And, although...
Strengths: High quality results, better than my older photosmart printer. Network capability, borderless printing, multiple card reader, LCD screen saver.
Weakness: Doesn't come with two sided duplex printing cartridge. A bit slow changing screens during the Instant Share menus.
I've always owned and liked HP printers but this one has more features and better print quality than any of the others I've owned. The LCD screen, navigation and editing buttons, speed and quietness are a big improvement. Highly recommend this printer if you're in to photo printing.
Strengths: Network connectivity, photo print quality, 2.5" LCD display, ease of setup
Weakness: Inks and special photo paper (like most inkjets) will be costly to replace.
Either text or photos the print quality is excellent! My pictures look like they're from a 35mm camera. This printer is VERY quiet. I replaced my Epson C84 with the HP8450 and it was an excellent decision. Much better build quality and features. Setup was simple with both my home desktop via USB cable and with my laptop via ethernet connection to my wireless LAN router. The software setup...
Strengths: fast printing, good quality, boardless printing
Weakness: Ink is consumed fast
I bought this with 100 rebate and pricematch, so the final price is dirty. This printer is really good. I like it very much, so I sold my almost new-bought cx6600 for this one. It's a right decision.
Strengths: This printer prints excellant quality photo prints. I've owned 3 HP photosmart printers and they have all out performed an Epson and Cannons that I've owned. The networking capability is great too.
Weakness: None that I can think of. A little bit bigger, but prints 8x10 prints and has two paper trays and memory card input slots so this does call for a bigger chasis.
The price is great. The quality is top notch. Easy to use. Separate print tanks. Much lower price than the Cannon i9000 series I contemplated purchasing. Set up for Windows XP pro was a breeze. Communcation across my network with Window Media Center and Windows XP home operating systems on other pc's had no problems. I've had no problem with software glitches with my HP photsmart psc2510xi...
Strengths: photo print quality, larfge LCD display
Weakness: high ink consumption and ink replacement will be costly (like all other photo printers!)
I had an HP photosmart 145 small photo printer (prints on 4X6 photo) and was very happy with the quality of the photos so I decided to get another HP photo printer that will let me print bigger photos. setup was very easy. the printer and software are user friendly. it has a large LCD display and card slots so you can print directly from the memory card without a computer. other than ink cost...
Strengths: Pict-bridge, memory card slots, decent lcd, printhead on cartridge.
Weakness: Larger than typical home inkjets, HP doesn't include usb cable, only a 7-ink printer, printhead on cartridge.
First thing i noticed after opening the cardboard box was, wow, this is larger than what i had expected. Our previous inkjet printer was the HP 720c, it's circa 1998 yet it's noticably smaller. I guess the HP 72x series was a typical home inkjet, while the 8450 was originally marketed to the photo enthusiast crowd. The biggest reason we bought it was, it costed only $100 US at Staples on Black...
Strengths: Good printing quality, easy installation, easy operation
Weakness: Slow speed in high resolution, ink expensive
This printer is a very good one for printing photos. It's printing quality is very good at high resolution, however that is at the cost of slow speed. Operation is intuitive. The bundled software is very useful. Ink is expensive -- like other similar products.
Strengths: Great photo printing in color and black/white
Weakness: Swapping cartridges!!
Photosmart 8450 is made for great photo printing and all purpose printing. Fast printing, high quality documents and photos, useful LCD display, all types of card slots. Ease of use, Can use with a Pic bridge camera, Easy setup
The Photosmart 8450 was HPs follow-up to the Photosmart 7960, and precedes the Photosmart 8250 in the high end of HPs color inkjet printer line. It was the first model to use HPs Vivera inks, which produce more vibrant and longer-lasting photos when used with premium HP photo paper than previous inks. The 8450 has several digital media card slots, as well as a USB port, enabling direct printing...

HP (Hewlett-Packard) Photosmart 8400 8450 Inkjet...
Strengths: Improved LCD screen, displays pictures faster & sharper. Accepts optional duplexer to print on both sides. Photo prints show greater detail compared to previous 7960. Fast printing. Network support.
Weakness: Still a large footprint, would like to see this improved. 4x6 photo prints via photo tray show "track" marks, same problem as 7960. Not too noticeable though.
Improvements have been made compared to the previous model 7960. More internal memory helps to manage photos quicker when using as a standalone. Pricing has become more affordable on this model. It started out as $299 MSRP, then dropped shortly thereafter to $249. Also a $50 Rebate by purchasing a digital camera. New Vivera inks promise to last longer (don't buy generic ink). Online photo...
