Strengths: Fast, great prints, easy setup, comes with full ink cartridges, compact footprint
Weakness: Expensive to run, need to switch matte and photo black, no USB cable, short FireWire cable, requires a lot of space
I once swore to myself that I'd never buy another Epson product again after having dealt with their awful warranty service. However, let's face it: Epson makes the best printers and scanners out there. If you want great print quality, then you buy Epson with an eye on the R2400. This sub-$1000 printer makes absolutely gorgeous, archival quality prints, and if you know what you're doing, you'll...
Strengths: High quaility prints. Improved Archival K3 inks Better Black and White prints than previous model.
Weakness: Only 8 ink locations for 9 potential inks. If you want to change from matt black to photo black then you have to swap out. In is then wasted in the required flushing
If you already have the p2200 then don't bother upgrading just fot the k3 inks. If you have a 1270, 1280, or 1290 then this upgrade is worth it becouse of the pigment based inks and archival prints. Epson could have offered the same ink improvements to existing 2200 owners, but instead they have forced users to upgrade expensive hardware to benifit from the new k3 ink set.
Strengths: The printer is compact.
Weakness: The Epson R2400 printer is difficult to feed 13x19 paper and any thick paper fed through the front smears.
I bought the R2400 6 months ago to replace an aging Epson 3000. This printer has problems feeding 13x19 water color paper- even Epson brand. The 3000 had a large paper tray and the single large sheets fed automatically. With the 2400, you have to fuss with the paper, feed it manually and pray that the printer accepts it. Canvas is nearly impossible to feed. The only way it works is through the...
Strengths: Great color and print speed; very good in gray scale.
Weakness: Requires Epson paper; ink cartridges have small quantity.
Overall a very high quality printer. Great color and print speed and very good in gray scale. The ink quality is good and will dry fast. Some drawbacks are that it requires Epson paper if you want to do full picture printing, otherwise it will smudge. Minor gripes are with the cartridges having such a small quantity of ink.
Strengths: 1. Fast, fast, fast... and Image quality doesn't suffer for it! 2. It's archival quality. 3. Prints B&W exponentially better than the R2200.
Weakness: That darned eight ink system with nine inks...
I do photo archiving and I didn't even bother purchasing the R2200 after seeing how wierd the B&W pigment inks reflected from the paper. The R2400 prints B&W prints more clearly than my Epson 1280 (Which is an outstanding printer in it's class). Plus, the R2400 uses the archival pigment inks, it prints with higher resolutions and I can make three 13X19 prints in the same time as I can print one...

Expensive but worth it
Strengths: (1) Beautiful prints (2) Print life (3) Roll paper adapter.
Weakness: (1) Product cost (2) Ink cost (3) Need to swap Matte Black and Photo Black cartridge
I've printed several color and B&W prints and about all I can say is WOW!. Beautiful color. Neutral B&W. Excellent shadow detail. If only the ink cost less so I would not be tempted to use generics. This is especially true since you waste a lot of ink swapping between matte and photo black. One feature that I've been wanting is the roll paper adapter. I have several panorama photos that I've been...
