Strengths: Excellent Print Quality - Fast Print Time - Waterproof - Smudgeproof - Easy to Set Up & Use - Retractable USB Cord - Small Size - Low Cost Per Print
Weakness: No Image Cropping - Small Image Screen
After trying the Canon DS810 and finding the ink smudged badly, I decided to try the CP710 Dye Sublimation printer. Wow, what a difference! This is a great little printer. Its very small, easy to set-up and operate and the print quality is equal to any photo lab. The prints really are waterproof and smudgeproof. Although you can't crop in the printer it's a miniscule trade-off for doing...
Strengths: Photo Lab Quality Prints; Small footprint
Weakness: Only prints 4x6 without extra cost trays for other sizes
I have been a confirmed ink jet photo printer person who has been very skeptical of these small dye-sublimation printers. In fact, I never even considered buying one until I purchased a Canon Powershot A610 digital camera for my daughter. Then, I figured I would get a compact printer to make it easier for her to print her photos. After looking over what was available I decided to buy the recently...
Strengths: Dye sublimation, continuous tone, low cost ink/paper kit, compact
Weakness: Smallish LCD, somewhat flimsy paper tray
If you want photo quality printouts just like the labs then do not settle for the inkjet variety. Dye-sublimation is the way to go, just like this CP710 and it's cousin the CP510. These compact printers are fast and produce very high quality 4x6 to 4x8 prints that no 6-color photo inkjet can touch. Get the 108 count paper/ink cartridge kit and your cost is only 28 cents per page.
Strengths: Small and vert portable, good quality prints
Weakness: relatively expensive price per print
I previously had the Canon CP-200 which was one of the earlier Canon dye sublimation printers. I bought the Canon Selphy as an upgrade. The interface is a lot more user friendly. It used the same dye sublimation technology and even uses the same cartridge and paper. Print quality remains great, but the relative price per print cost is high. It's good if there are photos you want to print...
Strengths: compact, makes good quality photos
Weakness: expensive add ons, expensive paper and ink
This is a nice compact photo printer that makes good quality prints. Printing speed is a little bit slow, but not unexpected given that this is a dye sublimation printer. Unfortunately, add on parts like batteries are expensive, and the ink cartridge/photo paper are also expensive. I probably end up spending 37 cents per print with this printer.

The Canon Selphy CP710 is the Mini Cooper of printers: small, stylish, and fast. In fact, it is the fastest compact printer we've tested thus far: outperforming both compact dye subs and ink jets.

Meets expectations
Strengths: Small size, good quality
Weakness: Image screen is tiny
I purchased this printer from Amazon for on-the-fly printing of photos. The quality of the prints is quite acceptable and it fits the bill for instantaneous prints. The device does not allow for cropping and the screen is small, but these are okay trade-offs for the easy portability.
