Strengths: scans, copies and prints at a great price, can be hooked up to a router for use over a network
Weakness: no fax, slightly unusual set-up for network use, when using the copy function, the top can be slightly cut off.
I purchased the Canon Pixma 970 in Dec 2007 to replace a HP Photosmart Printer that was 6.5 years old and did not work with Vista. The Canon Pixma series has received good reviews but did not have network capability which I wanted because we have multiple PC with different Operating Systems. Then I saw the new MP970 and it had the ability to hook up to a LAN router. I did not want FAX capability...
Strengths: Network interface, exceptional photos, prints, copies, and scans
Weakness: memory card reader does not work over the network interface with Mac OS X
The MP970 is an exceptional all-in-one device with an Ethernet interface. Pictures, graphics, and text are all excellent. The copier and scanner are easy to use. The only fault is the memory card reader does not work over the network with Mac OS X. I hope this will be fixed in a future version of the driver. The network driver installation is complicated, and you must follow the directions...
Strengths: Quiet and fast printing with easy setup.
Weakness: Ink tends to create streaks on photo paper.
I have owned several HP AIO printers and this is the first Canon printer out of the box I am using. Photo print quality cannot beat HP photosmart printers. There seems to be an issue with the ink running and creating lines when photo prints. Printer is good for quick home prints but it is far from lab quality prints. As a AIO, this printer is great. It has a great screen which is easy to use. You...
Strengths: Fast, Software Bundle, Easy Network Setup, 7 Individual Ink Cartridges, Energy Efficient, Direct CD/DVD Print, Duplex Printing, Dual Paper Feed, 4800x9600 Scanner, 3.5" color LCD, 1 Picoliter
Weakness: Questionable Drivers, No Fax, U.S. Version Does Not Print to CD/DVD Out of the Box
Color Copy Function (Rating 6/10) Pros: Not holding the copy up against the original, the copy is adequate and gets the job done, high optical resolution of 4800x9600 dpi. Very easy to use from the printer's control panel. Cons: Takes about a minute of prepping before the process begins. The color on the copy has a very slight green tint to it. Text is clearly not as sharp as the original. Colors...
Strengths: Very quiet and fast printing. The setup was very easy. The picture quality is excellant.
Weakness: None.
This is a great printer. It was very easy to set up. It prints out great pictures. I love how easy it is to hook up my canon camera to it and print out pictures in minutes. It is very user friendly.
Strengths: AIO printer with supreme quality of outputs
Weakness: Bulky, expensive
Canon makes good printers and has been eating up the market share of HP. Canon PIXMA MP970 does it again. This AIO printer can outperform any HP or Epson AIO printers in the same class. The color of photo printing is accurate. The monochrome printing is laser-like quality. The only downside is the printer is very bulky. Yes, did I mention it is very bulky? Make sure you have enough room for this...
Strengths: All-in-one printer with no-compromise quality in all functions
Weakness: Big and heavy Super expensive ink
This AIO printer consists of all the high-end functions- photo printing, B/W text printing, and high-resolution scanning. Despite packed functionalities, it is quite easy to use. The included software is massive, but works well once fully installed. The pigment black ink produces laser-printer like quality. The 6-color color photo printign produces great pictures. However, once should be aware of...
Strengths: Print speed, quiet mode, 2 separate feed trays.
Weakness: Large all in one, 26 lbs.
Replaced an HP 4180 that died with this Pixma. After reading the reviews and finding a deal with a 100 dollar rebate thought I could not go wrong. Overall am pleased with the printer but am not crazy as others are with photo quality. Could be the paper I am using but I have Kodak ultimate paper and using the settings suggested by Canon's website. The HP did a fantastic job with photo printing....
Strengths: Picture quality, speed, direct printing from camera or memory card, dual paper trays, great value with $100 rebate.
Weakness: Large size.
I was trying to decide which photo printer to buy for a long time. This was always one of my top choices but could not get myself to buy since the price was $200+. There's currently a $100 Canon rebate for it and that makes it less than $150 in most places. For that price you cannot get anything as good and versatile as the MP970. Short of printing in large formats, this printer can do pretty...
THE GOOD: Network-ready; auto duplexer; large LCD; control panel is easy to use and menus are well-thought-out; memory card slots and PictBridge port. THE BAD: Task speeds are slower than the last generations; print/scan quality is not up to Canons usual standards and needs improvement across the board; USB port doesnt support hard drives or flash drives. THE BOTTOM LINE: The Canon Pixma MP970...

Good all-in-one photo printer!
Strengths: Has everything you may need to print-scan-copy
Weakness: Bulky; questionable software supplied; cumbersome film scanner
One of not-so-many AIO photo printers, that also scans films, and one of the best available for the price. Quality of scans/prints is good to excellent, speed ,easiness of use and network support make this AIO very good addition to your home office. On the downside: this device is somewhat bulky and heavy; enclosed software is not well designed and film scanner may not suit your needs well- the...
