Strengths: Large capacity tray, secondary tray, large LCD, computer-free copying, decent ink capacity, advanced photo ink, astounding print resolution.
Weakness: Long wake-up time, LCD display of pictures direct from memory card is somewhat distorted, ink cartridges may be hard to find.
I tried Canon's MP780 for a few days before returning it and ordering this model (MP800) online. For the price, you could either buy a separate photo printer of the same capabilities and a scanner of the same capabilities. But that printer won't have the separate (larger capacity black pigment ink) cartridge for document printing. Running documents on dye based ink will result in higher long-term...
Strengths: large viewscreen, slide & negative adapters, duplexer, dual paper path, print and scan quality
Weakness: flimsy paper tray, large footprint, not network capable
GREAT PRINTER! I looked at a variety of printers, but narrowed it down to either this one, the Epson RX620/700 or the HP 3310. Really wanted wireless connectivity, but discovered that NONE of the wireless (either integral or print server) will work with scan capability. For the money, the Canon was my final answer. PRINT & SCAN QUALITY - Exceptional! Canon print quality is common knowledge, and...
Strengths: Like the looks of the unit and the scanning software for new users.
Weakness: The USB 2.0 high-speed interface needs a native (pre-installed USB 2.0 high-speed Port) It will not support an installed USB 2.0 High-speed adapter card. Misleading in advertising product.
I have a Power Mac G4 AGP graphics with new installed OS X 10.4.4. I talked to Canon and they have told me that it will not support this USB 2.0 card. The printer works in my native USB 1.1 port only and at the USB 1.1 speed. So beware when you buy this printer and be sure you meet the qualifications (USB 2.0 native port) no add-on cards will work. I am not happy with this product and they will...
Strengths: Top notch photo and print quality, Multiple cartridges a plus when one color runs out.
Weakness: High photo costs
Excellent for photos and text and is one of the fastest. Has a 3.5-inch LCD and optional Bluetooth. It can scan slides, negatives, and prints. However, it's photo costs are on the high side.
Quality is Average according to 2 Printer experts. -- "The Canon Pixma MP800R has all the features a photo hobbyist needs, including a media card reader, PictBridge and IrDA ports, a huge color LCD, and slide and negative scanners."-review.zdnet.com -- "subpar text quality and a print quality that will satisfy casual hobbyists but not discerning professionals"-reviews.cnet.com -- "The blotchiness...

Canon MP800 Multi-Function Printer
Strengths: Excellent photo quality, film/slide adapters, big color viewscreen, very stylish
Weakness: Large footprint, no fax capability, gets dirty easily, fairly long warm-up time
Overall, the Canon MP800 multi-function printer is great. Printed photos look excellent and this printer is able to scan slides and film with the included adapters. The printer is also capable of scanning documents at 2400 dpi and copying documents. A memory card slot accepts CompactFlash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, Microdrive, MultiMedia Card (MMC), SD Card, and SmartMedia. This allows you...
