Strengths: cheap
Weakness: failure prone
I have had 2 of these units fail around the 12 month mark. Shame on me for not doing adequate research as I have seen many similar complaints after the fact. I have 2 Maxtor NAS's on the network that have been running fine for 2+ years.
Strengths: Price...You get what you pay for.
Weakness: Slow, Loud, Bogs the network down and not share friendly...
Slow is not the word to define this drive..Accessing files over the network has been a pain. Its always thinking when not being accessed and it is extremely loud! Would recommend to stay clear.
THE GOOD: Gigabit Ethernet port; USB port for connecting additional hard drives; UPnP media server; backup software included. THE BAD: Read/write times could use some improvement. THE BOTTOM LINE: The LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini is a decent NAS drive for a good price. If you need more features or faster performance, look elsewhere.

(Other drives with similar features came with software that only ran on XP, at least when I purchased.) Installation onto network was simple. Configuration software worked fine, but a better...
