Strengths: Tons of sata 1 & 2 ports, usb ports, dual LAN, everything. If you can connect it, you won't have a problem running out. Hardware installed flawlessly. More PCI slots than SLI version.
Weakness: Onboard sound is kind of weak. My super old Soundblaster card sounds better. Add to on 05-09-2005: my northbidge fan got louder day by day. Seems it's a common problem.
Been running this for about 3 weeks now without any problems. I ordered the 3500+ Newcastle instead of the Winchester because other reviews said that the Winchester had problems constantly crashing with the nForce2 boards. It probably would've worked fine with this NF4 board but eh, I'll go with what I know works. I've been a hardcore ASUS fan for as long as I can remember but not now. MSI is...
Strengths: Stable and reliable. Great SATA support (including RAID5). Gigabit Ethernet. BIOS and Drivers updater.
Weakness: Capacitors preclude use of ThermalRight XP-120 CPU HSF (but XP-90 fits). Noisy chipset fan. PCI Express x16 (video card) slot placement.
Because the PCIe x16 slot is adjacent to the PCI slots, if one puts a decent HSF on the video card one must give up the nearest PCI slot, leaving only three. Given the persistent lack of non-video PCIe cards, MSI would have done better by placing the PCIe x16 slot between the other two PCIe slots. Of course, if MSI would release the PCIe version of the (ATI) Theater 550 Pro tuner, it would help....
Strengths: One of the fastest I've ever had.
Weakness: A little bit noisy but it's not a problem considering the performance
This board combined with a 3200 processor is an excellent gaming system. I had a six month old ASUS motherboard that I replaced with this one after checking out a friends system. I am sold on MSI now.
weet motherboard.i almost bought the asus a8n for future upgrades but my k8n neo 2 platinum has been perfect so i decided to stick with msi.not to mention msi makes it so simple to install their motherboards they give you everything including the sata drivers on floppy disc.and their manuals are very explanitory. like i said before msi has a customer for life. i paired this board to a ATI x850xt...
Strengths: easy to install
Weakness: no weakness other than chipset fan gets jammed often
This motherboard rocks. With nvidia nforce4 ultra chipset and dual core/ FX support what else one needs. My systems config is : AMD Athlon 64 3000+ MSI Neo4 Platinum XFX 6600 GT 128 MB PCI Kingston 400MHz 2x256 RAM Seagate 120 Gb 7200 rpm Creative Audigy 2 ZS No complaints yet.
The Platinum Edition of the K8N Neo4 from MSI comes from the factory with a very high level of equipment. It uses NVIDIA's nForce4 Ultra, and MSI provides one x1 PCIe connection. The second port has the physical dimensions of x4 PCIe, but features just two lanes. The fourth lane is taken up by an additional Gigabit network chip. Activating High Performance Mode in the BIOS led to a greatly...

Strengths: Very broad BIOS tuning functions, MSI's tweaking software, well layed-out board, mult-RAID options. Utils CD and Painkiller included. LiveUpdate makes installing new firmware and system drivers easy.
Weakness: RAM sockets could use a little more spacing to improve airflow beween DIMMS with double sided heatspreaders. Included demo games CD is nearly useless.
Documentation is good. Setup was straightforward. Overclocks like a dream. This was my choice for an entry level AMD64 system. Basic configuration follows.... Board: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum nForce4 Ultra CPU: AMD 64 90nm 3000+ RAM: 512MB OCZ400512ELDCPE-K (low latency dual channel) Graphics: Chaintech SE6600GT 128MB PCI-E Case: ThermalTake Shark mid-tower case PS: Enermax 485W Noisetaker...
