The 925XE Neo Platinum-54g ATX motherboard features the Intel Alderwood 925XE Chipset and support for the Intel Pentium 4 (Prescott, P4EE)/Celeron D processors in LGA 775 package and supports up to Pentium 4 5XX and Celeron D 3XX sequence processor, Intel 04B and 04A processors, Hyper-Threading Technology, 1066MHz and 800MHz front side bus and up to 4GB Dual channel DDR2 533+, DDR2 533 or DDR2 400 memory. On board devices include one Ultra DMA 66/100 IDE controller integrated in ICH6R (supports PIO, Bus Master operation modes, can connect up to two Ultra ATA drives), a serial ATA/150 controller integrated in ICH6R (up to 150MB/sec transfer speeds, can connect up to four Serial ATA devices, supports AHCI controller with SATA Raid 0, Raid 1 and Matrix Raid, supports SATA hot plug) and a VIA 6410 IDE RAID Controller that supports RAID (0,1 and 0+1), can integrate two Ultra DMA 66/100/133 IDE controllers and connect up to 4 Ultra ATA 133 devices. There are six PCI slots, eight USB ports and one IEEE 1394 connector. The Broadcom BCM5751 PCI-E Gb LAN Controller, Intel 82562EX 10/100 PHY LAN Controller and MSI PC54G2 802.11g Wireless PCI Card handle communications. The Azalia link controller 8-channel audio codec Realtek ALC861 integrated in the Intel ICH6R chipset handles audio. The mainboard BIOS provides "Plug + Play" BIOS which detects the peripheral devices and expansion cards of the board automatically. The mainboard provides a Desktop Management Interface(DMI) function which records your mainboard specifications.
Great Value and Outstanding Quality!
Strengths: Well designed with many features and easy to configure. I found this product to be extremely solid. On-board sound system is outstanding with great channel separation in 5.1 mode.
Weakness: I had a minor opportunity with the audio driver provided with the CD that came with the motherboard; however, after downloading the updated driver from the MSI web site, I had no other problems.
Taking into consideration that this motherboard comes complete with a WiFi card and 8-channel high-definition sound, these two features alone if purchased separately would cost more than the whole price of the MSI 925XE board.
