Strengths: Lots of programmable buttons - regular left and right click w/ scroll, one for IE Back, One for Double-click, one to copy, and one to paste - with one button to spare. Lightweight compared to wireless
Weakness: The "spare" button (see above) is tough to press. My second knuckle on my middle finger covers it up.
I use this mouse for web surfing, emailing, office productivity and even gaming. VERY light compared to my old wireless mouse. I have never had any issues with the optical on my desk. If you have problems, use a blank piece of paper - it worked for a friend of mine.
Strengths: Reliable, ergonomic, stylish, nice button layout, nice feel in the hand.
Weakness: Must take care what color or texture your mouse pad or work surface is to ensure good tracking. Mouseware software (on included CD-ROM has issues)—download the most recent version.
I got fed up with mice several years back—all mice. I was replacing a mouse a year; I work on my PC so much. The last replacement I purchased a touchpad instead, which has since happily outlasted my last 2 PCs. Recently while building a new PC for a customer, we decided on this model of mouse for him. I liked it so much, that I bought myself one for my newest PC, and that is saying something!...
Strengths: Acccurate, fast, great feeling in hand, thumb buttons remap in games
Weakness: It takes a day to get use to it, DON'T INSTALL THE MOUSEWARE
I was about to write a bad review about this mouse after 3 hours of use. I then decided to go to sleep and use it at work. When I went back to my old mouse at the end of the day I couldn't believe the difference in feeling. The MX 500 is big and sits more in your palm instead of on you fingertips. I think I was overgripping at first. This mouse is great! I am now scoring several headshots a game...
Strengths: Fits Perfectly, Doesnt miss any movements, Buttons
Weakness: Mouseware, Spongy Middle Mouse Button
I play alot of games so when I found out that the Middle Mouse Button was spongy, I was a bit disappointed, after a while though you work it in and it feels great. Buy this!
Strengths: Awesome tracking, when using a proper surface it WILL NOT mistrack. Solid manufacturing, nice hard shell, great contours/colors, black areas have a "rubberized" no slip feel.
Weakness: Can be hard on the "finger" mousers out there, took me a week or so to get used to it as i've always used my finger tips instead of my actual hand to mouse. Mouseware sucks.
All in all a great mouse, can be used on just about any surface except glass and mirrored surfaces but really shines when using a high quality surface, I use the XTRAC Zoom HS 1200dpi optical pad and the MX500 just glides across it smooth as glass and tracks flawlessly. As mentioned above the only real complaint is the software, the latest MW 9.76 is a MAJOR leap in the right direction though as...
Strengths: Tracking is better than the Mac Pro mouse which this MX500 replaced.
Weakness: Still not rock solid in tracking. Occasionally the pointer fights being guided. Like trying to attrack two magnets with the same poles.
I wish I could concur with the previous users of this mouse. I also use the X TRAC Zoom mouse pad but the pointer still regularly defies being precisely positioned. The software was not installed. But I did download and install the Control Center. The configuring instructions are not written for the uninitiated. The thumb arrows are nonfunctional on my mouse because I don't understand how to set...
MX500 CORDED OPTICAL MOUSE
Strengths: *** Great ergonomic design *** I was a little hesitant of the deep side groove for your thumb, but it acts as a wonderful little shelf. The rubberized paint keeps the thumb from slipping.
Weakness: *** Buttons *** Yes, there are a lot of buttons. And yes, I find that I click all of them, even the seldom-used Forward button.
I use the MX500 at home and an MS Intellimouse Explorer at work, and I can honestly say that I would rather have the MX500 also at work. Minor flaws aside, I find myself looking for those few extra buttons at work. And the overall ergonomic shape of the MX500 wins hands down, something that truly surprised me. Logitech did some serious human factors work when sculpting. The MX500 was a good...
