Strengths: Very light with a decent sized keyboard. Windows XP. Easy memory upgrade.
Weakness: Limited RAM; touch pad kind of a pain
I used to lug around a regular laptop for my somewhat limited needs of web browsing, word processing, powerpoint and simple games. It was a pain the neck and the battery life was never satisfactory. Windows XP is preferable to Vista for the web browsing, classwork and simple games I do regularly.
Strengths: Best on the market for the money. Very cool. Amazing battery time. Bluetooth - yay. Great keyboard, easy to type on. Fantastic touchpad with 2 finger scrolling.
Weakness: Right hand shift key is a little awkward because it's a little small - but I'll get used to it.
Right out of the box we said "Wow, this is sooo cool." After comparing all the netbooks available with 160 gig hds and at least 1 gig ram, this one showed to have the best features for the money. THE GOOD: Excellent battery life; improved keyboard; competitively priced. THE BAD: Slightly faster Intel Atom CPU fails to impress; other Netbook-makers have shown more innovation. THE BOTTOM LINE: Asus practically invented the Netbook market, and the Eee PC 1000HE is an overdue overhaul that offers a new CPU and great battery life, but misses some of the competitions bells and whistles.
