Strengths: Easy to setup, low cost
Weakness: only 90 day warranty, no network support
Nice thing to have to backup important files, especially being cheap. I got this ext harddrive to backup file which i used to burn to CD saves both time and file manamgement.
Strengths: Low Cost, Easy Add-on, Not So Hot
Weakness: Bulky, 2M Cache, External Power needed
I highly recommend this for anyone who wants just a backup drive for data storage. This is bulky, the reason why I need it is my Acomdata brought two years is even bulkier, but if you look for portability, go get a 2.5" drive instead.
Strengths: 7200 rpm
Weakness: Maxtor
So far so good. It is a goodlooking product. Lets see how it is gonna hold up? Paid 29.99 After $20 Best Buy coupon @ OfficeDepot. It has nice, slick design..
Strengths: external, usb compatible
Weakness: none found yet
very useful as backup storage device for my laptop. I USE it regularly for back ups, store pictures etc. nice sleek design, easy to use. got it for 49 dollars in Office depot, worth for the price
Strengths: Fast and Cheap ...
Weakness: Heavy and large
this is the first time I buy the external hard drive. I think this product is good and suitable for the person who want to use it keep some files or movie files.
Strengths: Great way to backup data. Very fast transfer via USB 2.0 interface.
Weakness: None so far.
I have a lot of data to back up. I used to use CD-R's, but I quickly found that the amount of data storage I needed exceeded that of a typical CD-R. With the maxtor 3100, I can backup data from multiple computers easily and delete files I no longer on-the-fly.
DO NOT BUY THIS DRIVE!!!! Maxtor only gives a 90 day warranty on this particular drive, which is unheard of for hard drive warranties (at the very least a hard drive should have a one-year warranty) Price seem too good to be true? It is!!! My drive failed after using it for 5 months of extremely GENTLE use. I may have transferred data back and forth to it a total of five times. It started doing...
Strengths: Easy to setup. Very portable.
Weakness: Without Ethernet Features. Cache Buffer only 2 MB. Relatively expensive for 80GB External Drive.
Bought this as an additional storage space for my laptop. So far it is running great. The speed of transferring files are fast via USB 2.0. Nothing too special, just another external hard drive feature wise.
Strengths: Nice small capacity External harddrive
Weakness: Software is not very great for automated backup.
Very decent looking small capacity harddrive. Quite and easy plug-n-play installation. Software is good but lack some features like auto backup and network access. Overall good backup drive.
Watch the warranty
Strengths: Inexpensive; easy to set up
Weakness: Failed one month after a 3 month warranty
I've never seen a hard drive with a 3 month warranty before, but I have now. If you're looking at the 3100 check the warranty - some vendors offer 1 year - and avoid the 3 month warranty. (Mine died about 1 month after the warranty expired; given that I have an old IMPRIMIS 1GB drive still in use after 16 years I am not impressed.)
