Weakness: Warrenty not as good as some other drives, smart tools from seagate do not recognise the disks smart codes. Has an annoying self check.
I built a new system using an ASUS P4P800 and this drive. It does not work well running windows 2000. Installed all the service packs and latest bios, drivers etc, installed using SP4and enabled EnableBigLba in registry. This is a great drive, it's guiet and the SATA interface gets rid of all those goofy ribbon cables. I'd give one of these to my Grandmother.

Please ignore all the reviews below regarding warranties. All seagate drive sold after 6/24/04 are FIVE (5) year warranty drives. These are extremely reliable drives.
Strengths: Native SATA interface (no bridge chipset). Good performance. Quiet idle.
Weakness: Noisy seek chatter. No standard 4-pin Molex power socket.
I have two of these drives and they've really performed flawlessly...except for the lack of AAM support. I use them on a Media Center PC and the seek chatter is audible from the next room, rendering the exceptionally low idle noise levels effectively worthless. I'm told that Seagate has disabled AAM due to a lawsuit with Convolve, but that OEMs still have the opportunity to preorder the drives in...
Strengths: Solid performance in RAID configuration, low noise and low heat
Weakness: None
Running strong over six months in a RAID 0 config with 3 drives. Zero errors under heavy disk load in multitasking operations, e.g. downloads, mpegs, file moves, 3D and other intense gaming
Strengths: Fast and Quiet.
Weakness: It's little more expensive than a comparable ATA drive. Time will fix that.
I'm using two of these drive in a RAID 0 Confgiuration on an Abit NF7-S v2.0 Motherboard. Again, nothing wrong with the drive but, at the time I was shopping around for a Motherboard w/ SATA, Nobody sold any motherboards that had more than 2 SATA channels.
Weakness: The warranty.

Had this drive for about 3 years just died on me..
Strengths: last for the period of the warranty.
Weakness: Died like 3 months after the warranty
Would go with a 5 year one next time.. Sucks I have a bunch of stuff on here i need. Go witht he ones with the longer warranty.and back up your data after three years!
