Strengths: Really easy to set up, lightning fast performance
Weakness: Click-click-click-click
The first one I got started making a loud metallic clicking sound when I used certain programs, and sometimes when the disk was doing whatever hard drives do when you're inbetween tasks. Sounded to me like the 'click of death', indicating a soon-to-fail drive. I ran every diagnostic test I could find: Windows disk tools, Seagate's own diagnostic, Norton, and numerous utilities to test disk...
Strengths: Large capacity, Great price, Easy installation, Faster than a speeding bullet access.
Weakness: Instructions on drive could be better written and more complete.
I'm not a tetchy and I was able to install the drive in about 10 minutes after a download of DiscWizard from Seagate. I'm using this drive as a external backup. I didn't pay attention to the SATA interface so I had to purchase a SATA -> IDE Device Converter from Newegg for my Coolmax CD-510 Series 3.5/5.25 external Aluminum Enclosure which worked like a charm. I've already backed up all data on...
Strengths: Price; fast; 5-year warranty
Weakness: OEM, so no software or cables
I'm not a power user, so this drive does basically what I need. I cannot honestly see the difference between SATA-I or SATA-II, nor from the 300mbps versus 150mbs. Same goes for the 16mb cache. Note that I don't use this as my C:/ drive, so that might be part of the reason. I got it to store digital pictures, movies and mp3s. I figured it makes the most sense to buy the latest generation drive,...
Strengths: quiet, easy to install, fast, lots of space
Weakness: none so far
i bought it from newegg.com and got it in 4 days. even though it's a OEM product but i have no trouble installing it. you can go to seagate website and download the software and make sure you buy the cable also. this hard drive is fast and quiet. it's my second seagate hard drive and i really recommend this product. A+
Strengths: Large Cache Large Size Quiet Operation
Weakness: None so far.
Read reviews of the 7200.10 line of harddrive and chose to buy one to replace my 2 failing 120GB drives. So far I've got nothing to complain about. It is a fairly large amount of storage (for me) and was a pretty decent price.
Strengths: nearly silent, amazingly fast
Weakness: none
I bought this for my Windows XP 64 machine I'm absolutely thrilled. This is the quietest drive I've ever used, even with defrag running it's nearly silent. It's also one of the fastest drives I've ever used, with performance comparable to the 10K RPM SCSI drives we have in our SAN at work. The price from mwave was among the best.
Strengths: Fast with a 5 year warranty...
Weakness: None
Be sure to remove the jumper on the back if your setup can support SATA 2 at 3 Mbs; otherwise, you'll get 1.5 Mbs. I put two of these drives in a new system and they are great. Fastest drives I have. Extremely easy to setup. Just the one jumper to remove to get 3 Mbs.
Strengths: Very large cache, quiet operation and good over all speed with less cable-clutter than standared IDE drives.
Weakness: None so far.
I picked up this drive a week ago for my Athlon 64 system and it's been working very well with the built-in SATA on my DFI LanParty UT.
Strengths: Fast, quiet..... .. did I mention fast?
Weakness: None so far
I bought this drive b/c of the capacity & the new perpendicular recording technology. Boy is it fast! It may just be that it is a fresh load of XP but I've worked with alot of IDE & SATA HDD's & this one seems different. I didn't notice any high temperature issues that other reviewers mentioned. I have mine inside of an SFF Aspire X-Qpack & it reports an operating temp of around 28 degrees, 30...
