The hard drive is very quiet. Can barely hear it 2 feet away. It is not hot at all in my usb external hard drive enclosure(no fan).
Strengths: quiet, doesn't get too hot.
Weakness: small cache, average (for 2006) size, not very high quality
The SP1604N drive came in a computer I bought. I was impressed by how quiet it was, that it seemed to stay cool even under the kind of conditions we have here in Florida, and the size was pretty good for my requirements. Strengths: Great price and it is a good solid hard drive that holds a great ammount of data. Has a 3 year warrentey which is nice in the 90 days to fail world.
Weakness: It does not come with a mirgration utility, so if you don't want to format you current hard drive you are stuck unless you are willing to spend $70 for Norton Goast. Thesupport site is hard to use.

Definately a Best Buy for the Buck.!! For the price of many 120 GB drives you geta bonus 40 GB free. ALso many of those drives are not a 7200 rpm drive such as this one. This is my second Smasung HD and I would recommend to anyone looking to upgrade or build fromscratch (who does that anymore?)
