In my T61p using Windows 7 RC (64-bit) and 8GB of RAM, this SSD gives almost twice the throughput of the 7200RPM hard drive (per PassMark) it replaced.
Solid State ThinkPad Drive
There is no downside to these solid state drives except a current limitation on the size of the drive. The start up and shut down of the machine is so much faster with a solid state drive it's well worth the additional cost when compared to the plummeting cost of a garden variety drive.
