The drive is fast. Faster than 7k60 on the paper. I can not feel it and I can say it is not slower than the 7k60 60GB I used before. The 60GB has best value in 7k100 series for under $120! SATA version is also available for under $130. It doesn't generate more heat or consume more power than a regular 5400rpm drive. It's a little bit louder than some others. But still, you can not beat its speed.
Get desktop performance from your laptop
Strengths: This hard drive provides desktop performance on laptop computers. Your laptop will boot quicker, launch applications and traverse the file system faster. The price per megabyte is very economical.
Weakness: This disk can be slightly audible in some environments. This is to be expected with any of the new high perfomance hard drives.
If you are accustomed to the hard drive performance of current desktop computers then upgrading your laptop disk is for you. The most common performance bottleneck with laptops is not processor speed but disk access speed. Typically, laptops come with 5400 RPM hard drives and some even 4200 RPM. The Hitachi Travelstar is a 7200 RPM disk with access rates comparable to 3.5 foot print hard drives....
