Strengths: Excellent capacity and speed. Very quiet at idle and under full load. And even after being under full load for days on end running distributed computing software.
Weakness: Here I can only complain that this 80GB drive wasn't offered in a 7200rpm configuration.
My laptop came with a 4200rpm 60GB main drive. Surely sufficient for most needs, but obviously not on par with the full capabilities of the 2.2GHZ CPU, 1.0GB of RAM and WinXP Pro. Swapping out the factory original drive for the 5K80-80GB drive was a wise move for me. Responsive speed increases were instantly obvious, and drive noise is almost inaudible from the 5K80-80GB. I'll be buying a second...
Strengths: Double the speed of my old hard drive. Very quiet when running. Excellent size. Excellent product!
Weakness: None! If you had to twist my arm, I'd say that the only weakness is that it doesn't come in a 7200RPM 80GB model. (Not yet at least)!
This HDD doubled the speed of boot up and program load! Original 4200RPM HDD was slow compared to this 5K80 even though it is 80GB is size! This HDD is absolutely quiet when running and the size capacity is amazing! Tested it with no physical errors. It is very compact and allowed me to attach my Thinkpad HDD drive adaptor to it before inserting in the laptop. I thought that memory was the only...
Strengths: - Whisper Quiet - Fast - Light - Reputable Brand - Good Warranty
Weakness: - Disk Drive Overlay May be Needed to operate drive on upgraded computers.
I bought this drive as an upgrade to the 17.1 GB Hitachi/IBM Hard Drive that came with my Vaio PCG-XG19 notebook computer. Compared to the 17.1GB hard drive, this 80GB hard drive by the SAME manufacturer is GREAT. The greatest benefit for me is the sound level of the drive. With the 17.1GB hard drive I always heard a lot of noise...which made it difficult to concentrate for long periods of time....
Strengths: 5400 rpm
Weakness: none
This harddrive I felt the best upgrade choice for a 4 year old notebook that has nearly reached obsolesence. I read a review on X-bit labs that showed this 5400 rpm harddrive was almost as fast as its bigger brother - the 7k60 hitachi 7200 rpm drive - by about 3 percent difference. The 7k60 cost about a $100 dollars more but too much for my notebook. The old hard drive was a 6 gb 4200 rpm IBM...
Strengths: Absolutely Silent!
Weakness: None yet.
I replaced a 40gb 5400rpm drive in my IBM ThinkPad T42 with this drive. The old drive was a Fujitsu, and there is a slight performance increase with this new Hitachi drive (even though it is the same 5400rpm speed). The new Hitachi doesn't seem to run any warmer than the Fujitsu. The right palm rest (where the hard drive is located) is not uncomfortably warm at all. Also, this drive is ABSOLUTELY...
Strengths: 80GB Hard Drive Capacity 5400RPM Quiet
Weakness: None that I know of
Compared to my previous 20 GB, 2400 RPM hard drive for my laptop, this one is awesome. Not only is it fast, but the space is generous and it is wonderously quiet!!!
Hitachi Travelstar 5K80 HTS548080M9AT00 80 GB...
Strengths: Quiet, fast, and big.
Weakness: None so far.
I installed this hard drive my notebook because my 60gb one was getting too small. I find this one to be quieter and possibly even a wee quicker even though they are both rated at 5400rpm. I have nothing bad to say about it other than I can't wait till notebook HDs get to 200gb. It fit fine in my TiBook G4. Screws went in place fine. Cloned superbly and has been working fine since.
