Description
The Targus Universal Notebook Docking Station with Video is the first USB based docking station with true video output capabilities. This "One Touch" interface allows users to quickly and easily connect to an external monitor, keyboard, Ethernet, mouse, printer, speakers or other devices in a matter of seconds. Strengths: Easy to install, works great with peripherals.
Weakness: none as yet
I found the docking station easy to install, easy to con nect, video switching software very convenient. I would purcahse it again for my own use or for my clients. Very Satisfied with the product.
Strengths: Universal (for any notebook brand), easy streight forward installation, plenty of USB ports, some even with permanent power-on (i.e. for device charging while computer is off)
Weakness: No big deal: You might need USB/PS2 (for mouse and keyboard) and USB/parallel-printer conversion cables if you have older equipment, w/o USB connection, as I do.
I can highly recommend this Universal Notebook Docking Station for a fraction of the price of a computer-brand one. You can use it with other laptops at the same location and keep it when getting a new computer. It is the best gadget I got in a long time!
Strengths: Works very well to keep all suppoert items available for my laptop. I don't have to fumble with numerous cables and cords to connect periferal items.
Weakness: Small doesn't have a fan to keep laptop cool.
This product worked exceptionally well for the price. I bought it to connect my laptop to the flat panel monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse and speakers. This did the trick, all of the cables and cords remain connected and all I have to hookup is one USB cable.
Strengths: The AC adapter and video connection; I like to sit down right at my desk and only plug 1 cord into my laptop.
Weakness: No ps2 port(s) for plugging in a non-USB keyboard and mouse (luckily I have a USB keyboard and mouse).
I used to plug my keyboard, mouse and external monitor right into my laptop everytime I brought the thing to work, as well as plugging the laptop into the wall. Now all I do is plug in 1 USB cord into my laptop and I all set to go. I haven't had any problems with it so far...
Strengths: Video output
Weakness: no ps2 ports
This is a good product and is the only available universal docking station with video. Since my family uses different laptops it is just what I needed to connect to an external LCD monitor and a wireless desktop. It also features 2 powered usb ports which can be used to charge ipod etc. However the lack of ps2 ports is a weakness of this product and at the price they should have been included....
Strengths: price, size, mobility
Weakness: shape
I looked everywhere and purchased several and returned them before I decided on the Targus Universal Dock with Video. Some custom Compaq notebooks do not have ports for a replicator and the targus connects with usb and works perfectly. Great product.
Strengths: fast installation, small size, lots of USB connections
Weakness: does not support parallel printer
I was so happy to get this plugged in and connected to all my peripherals. I was able to use an external monitor, mouse, keyboard, external burner, external hard drive and speakers, all by simply plugging into one single usb port on my laptop. No more fishing for wires behind my desk. This is fantastic.
Strengths: none
I used this for about half a day and it died. When it did work, the graphics were bad. I would not buy this again
Strengths: Has plenty of available connections, nice to be able to place it under laptop.
Weakness: The monitor output is almost useless.
When I saw that this docking station has a monitor output with just a USB connection, I thought it sounded too good to be true. When I tried it, I found out that it indeed was too good to be true. The monitor output has very low resolution and pictures move very slow. I basically had to go back to using the monitor output of my laptop. Other than that, it seems to work fine.

Targus Docking Station
Strengths: Small, simple easy to use
Weakness: Video only supports 1280x1024 and 16 bit No Vista Driver included
The unit is simple and may work for you, but it is not a true docking station in the sense of the word. My big complaint is that it doesn't support higher video resolutions, and seems to conflict with the output of my Dell M1330 laptop. I cannot get it to adjust the external resolution properly when connected, and therefore I only use the docking station as a USB hub and network connection. It...
