Strengths: easy installation. works like a charm. keeps CPU incredibly cool whether in my desktop w/ a fan attached or in my HTPC w/o a fan attached. super quiet either or!!
Weakness: 1) That it didn't come w/ the 120mm fan clips so I can see that makes a difference vs the 80 and 92mm fans. 2) I didn't use the included compound, I used MX-2. so I can't write about that.
Bought this fan because i read it was a perfect fit for my HTPC case (antec NSK2480) and it is! But I also used it in my desktop for a bit and it worked just as good as my Arctic Cooling Freezer Pro 64. Highly recommend this heat sink for desktop and HTPC uses!
Strengths: Very efficient. Low noise fan. Much smaller than regular CPU coolers.
Weakness: Not really weakness. But still bigger than stock cooler.
Very efficient. Even without the cooling fan. Low noise fan. Much smaller than regular CPU coolers. However it's still twice as big as stock CPU cooler. Not all micro ATX cases can handle it.
Strengths: Keeps CPU cool without having to use the included fan.
Weakness: Quite large. I would never describe the heatsink as "Mini".
The great thing about this is you don't need to use the fan to get adequate cooling on your CPU. The heatsink is able to dissipate heat well enough without it. I do not overclock so I cannot attest to the passive performance under that condition.
Strengths: Relatively easy install; good performer; low height
Weakness: So-So Fan
I recently got an Antec HTPC case, and wanted a CPU cooler that would keep my Intel E6850 cool under overclocking scenarios. This case is not overly tall, so after some research, this was one of the only effective CPU coolers that would fit. Height wise it wasn't an issue, but it is a little tight between my RAM sticks and the fan. For an Intel LGA775 install, you need to pull the motherboard out...
Strengths: Efficient and quiet for HTPC. Includes a fan. Can be used as fanless cooler.
Weakness: Size can be a problem for some HTPC cases.
Got in a deal on Antec Fusion so I bought this with the intention of running it fanless. It's originally designed for Antec Fusion series so there's no problem for me to fit it in. However, its size may prevent it being installed in some of the more compact cases. Runs well with the new AMD 4850e CPU and the whole setup is dead quiet. Excellent investment if you have a Antec Fusion or NSK2480.
Strengths: Works with many CPU socket formats, affordable and just plain works, even without the included 80mm fan.
Weakness: "Push pin" clips are sometimes not the easiest to handle. It would have been nice if they had included 120mm fan clips. Might be too big for some HTPC cases.
Scythe has put it all together with their Ninja MINI CPU cooler. Not only is it quite affordable, but it will handle a wide variety (Socket 478, 754, 939, 942, AM2 and LGA775) of CPU socket form factors. .. The "MINI" label might be questionable, because at 4.5" by 4.5" on each side and 4.25" tall (without the fan) this cooler could be too big for some motherboards or cases, especially microATX...
Strengths: Excellent cooling for a compact system.
Weakness: A bit tricky to install for a 775 socket.
This is the cooler choice for my new Mythtv build I have been putting together for the last several months. It's job is to cool an Intel Q9300 quadcore inside an Antec 2460 case. Next to the 120mm fan in the case, cooling is sufficent even under full load (not over clocked).
Strengths: Very efficient cooler. Low profile, quiet, reasonably priced.
Weakness: None.
If you have an antec nsk2480 or fusion case, this is the best option. It is just short enough to fit, and you can take off the fan for passive cooling. The only other GOOD option for htpc cases is the zalman cnps8700, but tests at spcr show that this unit is actually quieter, with superior performance. Would buy again in a heartbeat.
Strengths: Small - fits great in Antec Fusion micro atx HTPC case. Included 80mm fan is near-silent at idle.
Weakness: Hard to attach to cpu socket.
I really had to crank on the clips to get it to attach to the AM2 socket on my Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2h mobo. It seems like a bit too much pressure. I won't have to worry about it moving around though. This is a nice, quiet cpu cooler when used with the included 80mm fan. I like the push/pull any side location fan mounting options. It allow for a lot of different configurations. It is also nice...
The Ninja is a large tower CPU cooler from Scythe. Featuring 6 large copper heatpipes with aluminum fins, the Ninja is a popular enthusiast air cooling heatsink/fan combination used by overclockers and silent pc enthusiasts due to its high efficiency with little to no airflow. The Ninja is packaged with a medium speed 120mm Scythe fan, which is quite good in terms of cooling power as well as...

One of the best affordable coolers I've paid for.
Strengths: Extremely efficient heat management, "smaller" form factor, fanless operation in most cases, mounting was a "breeze"
Weakness: The heatsink is a tad larger than expected but there isn't much inside my case so it didn't effect it.
This heatsink is fantastic. I am currently using it inside my HTPC (Fusion v2 enclosure) on a AMD X2 4400+ processor. The processor idles at 29c and 35c under load. I am running the heatsink fanless and have had no problems so far. The heatsink does its job fantastically and helps in keeping my HTPC as silent as possible. I highly recommend this heatsink and will most likely be replacing my...
