I bought this for my Sony HDR-HC3 camcorder. This cable is necessary to download video from my camcorder to my computer. Just make sure you have a 4 pin FireWire socket on your computer to be able to use this connector.

A word of caution to those who own a Sony HDR-HC3 (or any other Sony camera using an IEEE 1394 connector). The connector on the camera side breaks EASILY, and it costs over $250.00 to get it repaired from Sony. When this happens your computer won't be able to recognize the camcorder. A lot of people have had this problem, and now I do too!
Strengths: Simple to use just plug it into the cameras and it is immediately recognized
Weakness: None that I can think of!

very compatible with my vaio desktop. i have owned my computer for nearly three years without a problem. i own a shoddy panasonic camcorder. i would suggest buying sony camcorders.

Weakness: 4 ft is a little short for some applications
A 6 ft length would be a nice improvement over 4 ft. It will handle our recoding needs well linking our Sony Digital 8 handicam with our Sony DVD recorder.
Strengths: This cord works with my 4 pin firewire port in my Sony Vaio Laptop, and interfaces well with Vegas 5.0 and my Sony Handycam. Sony all around makes for a winning combination. Cable is wonderful.

This is an excellent cable, and an excellent product. I reccomend paying a little more for genuine Sony equiptment. Except for the length, this is a great addition to my Sony electronics collection.
