Strengths: fast speed, compatibility with devices
Weakness: thick, long cable
If your computer did not came with serial port on it, either laptop or desktop, than this is the device to own; it is allowing you to connect almost any type and brand of the device that connects via serial port
Strengths: works perfectly
Weakness: None that I can determine
I have had experience with several brands of serial adapters and they have all had one problem or another. This appears to be the best unit on the market because it has a digitally signed Windows XP certified driver! No more worries about it crashing your system, and for me it worked perfectly on two difficult-to-synchronize mobile devices (pocket PC and handheld PC) first time out of the box....
Strengths: Excellent compatability, detachable USB cable, 5 year warranty, excellent clearance around the DB9 port.
Weakness: no functional weakness, but it is quite expensive
This is a great USB - Serial converter. I use it on my laptop to connect to various network dervice serial consoles and have never had any issues. Appears as a standard RS-232 port to all software I have used (both under Windows 2000 & XP). I detachable USB cable is great as a longer cable can be subsituted if required. The DB-9 port has plenty of clearance around it so all serial cables can...
Strengths: Worked on my unusual applications.
Weakness: None yet.
I bought a OBDII scanner which communicates with a cars computer via a serial port on a PC. Since my laptop didn't have a serial port I bought this adapter to allow me to hook it up to the USB port. I was very pleased when the serial adapter worked as advertised. It emulated the serial port with no problems even with this unusual application. I also have an old Spaceball 2003 which also ran fine...
Strengths: works better than the cheaper generic types, easy to set up and start using
Weakness: sometimes loses the connection
This device allows you to use a USB port as a serial port on computers (generally laptops and perhaps newer PCs) that do not have serial ports. I bought this item to use with an Aeros remote control that is programmed via serial connection on your PC. The Universal Remote company recommend this keyspan adapter and it worked great. I previously had a cheap, generic brand usb to serial adapter but...
Strengths: Not many options left for those in need of a serial connection and have a newer computer.
Weakness: Driver disk was old, wasn't 'windows approved'
I have a need for a serial port on my laptop for work. I just bought a new Dell and it did not have this available. This device, once properly setup worked beautifully. The driver CD was old and not compatable with Windows XP, I had to go to the Keyspan website and download their new, signed drivers.
Strengths: Easy to install, works with windows xp. Reliable.
Weakness: The usb cable is very lose.
New computer doesn't have serial port and that is the reason why I bought this device. I found that it is very easy to install but the usb cable that connect to the device is very lose. I expect the cable and the device should be 1 piece. Now, I have to find a way to seal it. I am running a stress test 24/7 and see how reliable it could be.

Serial to USB Adapter Installs Easily Works Great
Strengths: Has a removable USB A-B cord enabling it to be used with a longer cable. Status lights and easy setup drivers
Weakness: None
I purchased this item to connect an amateur radio transceiver to a PC that had only one COM port that was already in use. The drivers installed easily from the CD. Once the device was connected it was immediately recognized by WinXP and became COM3. When I connected the transceiver to the device, my software immediately found the transceiver and enabled computer control of it. I highly recommend...
