The first time I use it to connect the Sony TVR - 460 with my PC (P4 2.8 GHZ, 2.0 G of MEM, MObe ASUS P4P800 Deluxe) and it does not work because the camcorder can not be recognized by the PC via the port IEEE 1394. Strengths: 4 pin to 4 pin works with Cannon ZR65 camcorder and Compaq 1010US laptop. I am satisfied with the product. A 4 pin to USB cable may be a better option. May buy again, if there is a need.

Laptop should have a firewire or a 4 pin slot. As mentioned earlier, a 4 pin to USB cable may be a better option, if such cable is available in the market, as USB is very common in laptops.
